Iím Jessica, living in New York City and trying to work down my weight so that I can be more active with my friends. I hate that I say no to things I want to try because of my weight. Get out of my way!
I've battled the bulge my entire life, along with my mother and a few of my many siblings. The genes may not be perfect, but in high school and beyond I also turned myself into a compulsive, emotional eater. Iíve joined weight-watchers more times than I can count. While itís a great program, I felt like I started setting myself up for failure in the proram mentally. I needed something different to prove to myself that I could stick with something. Anything. And after a little google-fu, there was SparkPeople.
I love that SparkPeople provides me with documented history. My favorite thing when I'm feeling dejected about food it to look over my history and how far Iíve come in so many different areas Ė food, fitness, weight.
I am hypothyroid, and finally getting on the right meds made it possible for me to get out of bed in the morning. Thankfully, that makes it actually possible to work out, which didn't use to be true.
Now that I'm on track again for my thyroid, this is my re-committment to SP. I have done it once before in a concerted way, but fell off when I injured myself and couldn't exercise.
So it's time to build healthier habits and a healthier body for real. I'm trying for the SLOW and STEADY motto this time around.
So, ďEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.Ē It's one day at a time, I need to talk about it with other people, and track everything even on bad days.
Ok, off we go.
1- See the scale move the scale below 200
2- Be able to hike with friends
3- Eat natural, whole foods and cook my own meals
5- Run outside for fun
6- Build up stamina to take a dance class
Food: Following SPís guidelines for calorie/nutrient intake, and tracking every single thing I eat. Working with a doctor to control my thyroid.
Goal/Strength Training: 2-3 days per week.
Goal/ Cardio: 4 days per week. Bike Trainer or swimming, while working up to other higher-impact things as I lose weight.
