I am a work in progress

I'm a midlife wife, mother, RN, who likes to stay active and wants to keep it that way for the rest of my life. Have been overweight for 25+ years. I love dogs, I have a five year old Bichon Frise named Linus who likes to walk/run then plop down until I carry him.

9/8/15- Recently had surgery removing my thyroid and 2 parathyroids due to autoimmune disease making them overactive. Now trying to adjust to thyroid replacement medication. Looking for "just the right dose".

1/10/17 -
My husband is supportive and joins me in diet/exercising. I bought him a Garmin activity tracker for his birthday this past summer and he has lost 48 pounds using it along with tracking food on my fitness pal. He is now on maintenance and inspiring me to track my food once again!

My 28 yr old daughter lives and works nearby and joins us in our walks and developing a healthy lifestyle.

My 23 year old daughter is living an hour away at college. She is a vegetarian but has a pretty bad college dorm junk food habit. She finds time to exercise to maintain a healthy body weight but I have been lecturing her on healthy nutrition. She is a computer engineering student so it is hard to get through to her- LOL She graduates in June and I am hoping that once she settles into a job we can discuss healthy eating habits!!

My Goals:
**( April. 2017- Goal for the 5% Spring challenge is to lose 10.2 pounds in 8 weeks. The Challenge starts April 8th)**

1) To lose at least 1 pound each week

2) To stay active and live a healthy lifestyle.

3) To set a good example for my family and loved ones.

4) To encourage my family and loved ones in their own goals and to help them along the way.

5) To lose weight while maintaining lean body mass (i.e. muscle and bone density)

6) This is the most important Goal for me right now: To monitor my TSH, T4, Calcium and parathyroid hormone levels. Maintain the proper dose of medication so that I have energy and a clear head.


My Program:
I have to make it simple. My life is too complex already.

1)Stay within calorie range.

2)Walk with my dog two to three miles a day when weather permits.

3)Exercise on elliptical or bike 3-4 times per week.

4) try to strength train with light weights.

Positive thoughts each day to reinforce healthy habits.

**( My Program for the 5% Spring Challenge: Walking- 3 miles of intentional walking 5 days a week; 3 hours of cardio on elliptical or bike each week; 15-20 mins of slow to moderate rowing on new rowing machine 3 times a week; Strength Training twice a week; PT stretches for shoulders every day. )**

    Hi Harriet, I stayed about the same during this Spring Challenge, but I consider that a win as I didn't gain either!!! Without the support of a strong team, I probably would have gained. I look forward to you joining the Summer Challenge and we will get a loss during the summer. I am still struggling with pain in my leg, hip, and back, but I am determined not to give up or quit trying. I am proud of you for what you have accomplished!!! Let's get moving this summer!!!     emoticon Harriet, It seems we both need to just keep trying!!! I haven't lost anything this spring challenge, if anything, I have gained a little bit, it gets so frustrating.
