Hi--I'm an empty nester whose third son married in 2012. I am still recovering from a July 2008 stroke. I started with SparkPeople in March 2012 because keeping my weight in check is very important for my health. I am looking forward to my future as I continue healing and maturing in the Lord. I believe this page will document stair steps of growth and rebuilding.
Update end Sept 2015: I dallied on losing the winter weight through July, and much of August, but have really gotten back in gear. A good friend reminded me about a month ago that we must get it done now if we want to be down before the holiday season. Almost there--last weigh in was 143.8. This is a great season for exercise for me, too! Happy fall, y'all!
Update end of April, 2016: Gained, but not quite as much as in 2014-15 winter. Still near the top of my range though, and trying to get a handle on it and working to increase my exercise slowly but steadily a lot earlier than last year. Enjoying the spring and looking ahead with anticipation. Mom's going to be ninety in May, and I turn 65 in July.
Update July 23, 2016: Turn 65 tomorrow. I have lost most of winter weight and seem to be holding my own at 148 lbs during birthday season this year. Would like to go down a little more and make winter weight a thing of the past. Haven't made it a goal yet, though. I know what the root of the problem is, but don't yet know how to handle it. Hope to next winter... Have a great rest of summer, friends.
Update mid-September 2016: Down around 142 lbs now. Enjoyed summer and looking forward to cooler days/nights. Hope to do some fun activities this fall, like an orchard or fall festival or something. Loved that I lost the winter weight earlier this year-have had more time to work on fitness and enjoy life. Happy fall everyone!!!
Update mid-January 2017: Got down too low to 139 last fall. Now up at around 151. Winter weight is not yet a thing of the past, but I'm still working on it. Enjoy your winter!

06-16-15 I took off a month from exercise, so now am building again slowly. Worked back up to 10,000 steps at least, 5 days or more a week. Working to lose winter weight I gained in March.
08-01-15 Have decided for me to lose a reasonable amount of weight in a reasonable length of time I have to eat very lean and do lots of exercise. Am trying to learn now how to make it feel fun!
10-23-15 Upped my exercise to over 17,000 steps most days for almost 2 months; my weight has come down, but I'm having to back off because I'm too sore. At least I'm back in the range I want to be - now going to work on staying here. I've named this part of my journey The Healthy '40s. Maybe this will help me!

I live very near Indianapolis, IN. I love my grandkids, who increased from 3 to 5 at year's end 2014 and new year's beginning 2015--our first 2 girls added to our 3 boys. I like seeing them as often as I can. Also enjoy compiling and writing Bible studies, reading, traveling and making new low cal recipes from time to time.

I'm reading two wonderful devotionals. The first is JESUS CALLING by Sarah Young. It's a full year of short devotionals, and I'm reading it for my fourth or fifth year in 2017.
The other "devotional" is Women of the Bible (A One-Year Devotional Study of Women in Scripture: Updated and Expanded). It is written by Ann Spangler and Jean E. Syswerda. I got them for my Kindle and just love them!
