Barb's Life

Hi--I'm an empty nester whose third son married in 2012. I am still recovering from a July 2008 stroke. I started with SparkPeople in March 2012 because keeping my weight in check is very important for my health. I am looking forward to my future as I continue healing and maturing in the Lord. I believe this page will document stair steps of growth and rebuilding.

Update June 2014: A year ago June I started writing and leading a Bible study at church on God and our beginnings and how we walk with Him. A friend and I planted a small garden by my front door for the second year this spring. It gave my neighbors and me much joy last year, and has already started to do so this year. I'm looking forward to see what this summer brings. Life continues to get more interesting as I continue to heal and yield to my Lord.

Update End of August 2014: It's been a good summer. I lost my winter weight and am now around 140 pounds. I've enjoyed outings with family and lots of morning walks. I am at the peak of my exercise cycle, and feel like I've gained back the ground I lost physically over last winter. Now looking for ways to sustain it in the upcoming months.

Update Feb 1, 2015: I've managed to stabilize my winter weight at no higher than 148.6 pounds, and am taking advantage of the gym membership I got last September so I can stay active this winter. I go between 2-3 times a week (using the treadmill and working out in their pool), and that also gives me incentive to work out at home the other days. I plan to go back down to summer weight slowly and enjoy it, because this year I'm staying in decent shape. Have a good rest of winter, friends!

My Goals:
By August 2014, I plan on being down (again) to 140 lbs.

Got to goal on August 15,2014

Goal: By end of October 2014, get gym membership so can/will work out more this winter.

New goal: Start water aerobics, learn to use gym machines

My Program:
I have been walking more with intervals of indoor jogging.

I'm drinking lots of water.

I'm reading more again here and participating more, hopefully inspiring others and motivating myself.

I slowed way down in mid-December 2014, but am picking up again in last third of January 2015.

As of mid-March 2015, my exercise is great, but I'm still slowly gaining, yet still within my range. Last year I gained more, and did no exercise till near May. I'm still a bit ahead of the game...but it's now mid-April 2015 and I'm at the same place again as I was last month... .

Personal Information:
I live very near Indianapolis, IN. Had a wonderful, but cool summer in 2014, and a week before Thanksgiving have already had our first snow-3 inches-on Monday. Looks to be a cold winter, but I plan to enjoy it as much as I can.

Thanks for your comment on my blog about balance. So true that balance is better than perfectionism! But sometimes I could use more perfectionism ... I OFTEN find balance by skipping house chores in favor of cooking, exercising, sleeping ... :-)
