Traveling a bumpy road!

So much has happened to me since I started SP April 9th 2010. I've lost weight of course and regained some, I've learned to stop eating when full and I've made some great spark friends. I'm sparking much of the time. Many know about my son's accident (6/17/2010)and the changes that has wrought on my life, my sister Véronique's death (11/7/2012) due to a brain tumor and Vicky's congestive heart failure, diabetes and a host of other problems. I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter ...

I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter in May 2013 for a total of 5 grand-daughters and 1 grandson-the first and eldest of the grands..

I try to keep smiling and stay positive-not always easy, but the good Lord helps. I love life from infancy to old age.
I retired May 25th, 2012.
My 5 children and 6 grandchildren are an important part of my life.

With the exception of my cholesterol levels and a mobile blood pressure I am relatively healthy. Both my son's care and my weight contribute the occasionally elevated blood pressure. My cholesterol has been high since I was in my 40's and I am allergic to statin drugs which limits what I can take for the cholesterol problem. My Goals:
1. track all of my foods, striving to get 5-8 fruits & veggies per day.
2. I will walk no LESS THAN 5,000 steps and work my way past 10,000.
3. to be more positive, and supportive to those around me, especially new widows.

My Program:
To watch what I eat, most importantly cutting back on cholesterol and sodium. Work to change a sedentary life into a more active life, which is difficult for me. Even though retired, I'm knitting and sewing more that makes for a still sedentary life.

Personal Information:
I was born in Bedford, Ohio of a Belgian mom and an American GI. I have lived in Belgium, Ohio, Florida and am currently in Georgia. I am widowed and have five grown children, one of whom had a traumatic brain injury June 2010 and for whom I am the court appointed Custodial Guardian.

Other Information:
I like to knit, sew-when I have time and play with my grandchildren.
I'd love to be able to travel again, to go back to Belgium and Austria, to see Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

Thanks Ginie!! I eventually got up last night and took some Extra Strength Tylenol which helped me enough that I could fall back asleep for a couple of hours. I had pain in my shoulder, wrist, thumb, head and a tooth (can't imagine why). The bad dreams came from the thought of my upcoming surgery.

Yesterday I went to Orthopedics because I have been having a lot of wrist pain and my wrist (right side) is swollen. I am having trouble doing most things -- driving, cooking, cleaning, gardening, dressing, etc. I really don't know what I expected but a surgery recommendation was not it. I will have an ulna reduction ostomy on August 22. It seems that my ulna is too long so it hits up against the hand bones and has resulted in lesions on each bone plus, probably, a hole in the cartilage. I could have a bunch of cortisone shots which might give me relief for a few weeks at a time but it can be fixed by making the ulna shorter. It's about a three month recovery, the first month in a short cast. I think I won't be too handicapped except for weight restrictions and most likely having to do some things with my left. I was not very happy, though thankful it can be fixed.

He also gave me another cortisone shot for my trigger thumb and if that still bothers me by the time of surgery, he'll just go in and fix that too. As for the shoulder, that partial tear at the rotator cuff really bothered me yesterday. Not sure why.

I guess I just was not well made structurally -- and mostly on the right. The doctor did tell me my ulna is probably too long on the left too and may or may not have trouble with that. I'm thinking no just because I am so right sided.

I considered putting surgery off but now is a sort of lull in the caregiving, till later September, so I thought I should just do it. My bad dreams were all about being chased. I'm very sure it was related to the day I had.

I'm glad you got out for a walk. I'm sending prayers that Sarah works out well for you and you can start taking care of you!

I know, it is sometimes hard to keep plugging away at this. I don't think I'd want to do MediFast though. I'll just keep at this and I hope you will too.

Good luck!!

Yes, we need to remember to keep our "tools" in their proper place and also to take responsibility for our results or lack of same. Sometimes, easier said than done. LOL

I think we should buckle down. My weight is down a bit from last year. I don't know why but I gained three pounds just in time for my annual doctor visit. It has taken me about 10 days but those pounds have finally gone away. I haven't changed my eating so I really don't know what was up with that. I am in a new decade now and would love to get to the lower end of it. emoticon Let's keep trying.

Had a tough day confronting my step mom (with her three kids) over giving money to a great grandson who just uses it for drugs. Now that he has come back into her life, she isn't doing as well. I think being sneaky is just too much for her brain to handle. Hope things change. We've all spoken to her separately, hopefully the group talk will be more effective. She wasn't very happy about it but I think okay by the end.
