So much has happened to me since I started SP April 9th 2010. I've lost weight of course and regained some, I've working on eating less again , with more fruits and veggies.I've made some great spark friends. I'm sparking as much as I can and getting back to tracking. Many know about my son's accident (6/17/2010)and the changes that has wrought on my life, my sister Veronique's death (11/7/2012) due to a brain tumor and Vicky's death (12/2/2017) has added to things to adjust to. I also have been blessed with a total of 5 grand-daughters and 1 grandson-the first and eldest of the grands..
Y. I try to keep smiling and stay positive-not always easy, but the good Lord helps. I love life from infancy to old age. I retired May 25th, 2012 to be Erik's primary care person. My eldest two try to help at times. My 5 children and 6 grandchildren are an important part of my life. With the exception of my cholesterol levels and a mobile blood pressure I am relatively healthy. Both my son's care and my weight contribute the occasionally elevated blood pressure. My cholesterol has been high since I was in my 40's and I am allergic to statin drugs which limits what I can take for the cholesterol problem. I live with the adage that all is a Gift from God and try to trust Him.

My Goals:
1. track all of my foods, striving to get 5-8 fruits & veggies per day.
2. I will walk no LESS THAN 5,000 steps and work my way past 10,000.
3. to be more positive, and supportive to those around me, especially new widows.

My Program:
To watch what I eat, most importantly cutting back on cholesterol and sodium. Work to change a sedentary life into a more active life, which is difficult for me. Even though retired, I'm knitting and sewing more that makes for a still sedentary life.

Personal Information:
I was born in Bedford, Ohio of a Belgian mom and an American GI. I have lived in Belgium, Ohio, Florida and am currently in Georgia. I am widowed and have five grown children, one of whom had a traumatic brain injury June 2010 and for whom I am the court appointed Custodial Guardian.

Other Information:
I like to knit, sew-when I have time and play with my grandchildren.
I'd love to be able to travel again, to go back to Belgium and Austria, to see Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

I hope you are happy with your progress on your projects. After two action packed days here, I'm back to Dad's for the next three days. I come home each night as I don't feel comfortable leaving John alone that long. At least I am starting to feel better. I think what I have now is allergy related.

Dad had a tooth extracted yesterday. Then, after about a half hour wait in between, the dentist was able to remove a piece of bone under the gum on the other side of his mouth. When I got him home, he laid down for a rest and while he slept, I ran errands for him. I stayed late to make sure he was okay and that he had something relatively decent for supper. I made him mashed potatoes with cheese. He has to have a soft diet and can't have anything too hot. He should be able to eat a bit more today but he is missing a chewing surface now so until we get some sort of denture, he'll be quite limited.

Today is coffee this morning after a run to the vet. This afternoon I'm going to a garden talk thing about an hour away. I'll enjoy visiting with my friend but I'm mad at myself for forgetting to bring egg cartons from Dad's. What are you up to?

(Cont...) your challenge made me realize that I have cut back so much on my healthy eating. I wonder if I can cut sugar out of my diet? I read a spark article about a man who did and lost a lot of weight.

Hi Ginie, thank you for your encouraging words. It is challenging to stay within my calorie count too. Lately it's impossible. On Monday I start to New Challenges to try and help with that. One to reduce sugar and the other to eat more fruits and veg

Hello, my friend Ginie! I'm sorry I was absent from SP for a few days and wasn't able to join your veggie challenge. I hope it's going well for you! Actually, I don't have any trouble getting in five servings a day, but it seems that no matter how many servings I consume, my food tracker always tells me I didn't get enough fiber. Weird.

I hope you and Erik are doing well. It's still cold where I am in Japan, but I'm looking forward to warmer weather when I can get out and do some weeding. The yard really needs attention. I can feel some pollen in the air, however, telling me spring is not far away, and I imagine you're feeling it, too, over there in Georgia!
