Traveling a bumpy road!

So much has happened to me since I started SP April 9th 2010. I've lost weight of course and regained some, I've learned to stop eating when full and I've made some great spark friends. I'm sparking much of the time. Many know about my son's accident (6/17/2010)and the changes that has wrought on my life, my sister Véronique's death (11/7/2012) due to a brain tumor and Vicky's congestive heart failure, diabetes and a host of other problems. I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter ...

I also have been blessed with a new grand-daughter in May 2013 for a total of 5 grand-daughters and 1 grandson-the first and eldest of the grands..

I try to keep smiling and stay positive-not always easy, but the good Lord helps. I love life from infancy to old age.
I retired May 25th, 2012.
My 5 children and 6 grandchildren are an important part of my life.

With the exception of my cholesterol levels and a mobile blood pressure I am relatively healthy. Both my son's care and my weight contribute the occasionally elevated blood pressure. My cholesterol has been high since I was in my 40's and I am allergic to statin drugs which limits what I can take for the cholesterol problem. (I am in gray in the first picture, and turquoise in the second)

My Goals:
1. track all of my foods, striving to get 5-8 fruits & veggies per day.
2. I will walk no LESS THAN 5,000 steps and work my way past 10,000.
3. to be more positive, and supportive to those around me, especially new widows.

My Program:
To watch what I eat, most importantly cutting back on cholesterol and sodium. Work to change a sedentary life into a more active life, which is difficult for me. Even though retired, I'm knitting and sewing more that makes for a still sedentary life.

Personal Information:
I was born in Bedford, Ohio of a Belgian mom and an American GI. I have lived in Belgium, Ohio, Florida and am currently in Georgia. I am widowed and have five grown children, one of whom had a traumatic brain injury June 2010 and for whom I am the court appointed Custodial Guardian.

Other Information:
I like to knit, sew-when I have time and play with my grandchildren.
I'd love to be able to travel again, to go back to Belgium and Austria, to see Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland and Italy.

I agree, I LOVE that recipe you make but think that the canned is just a waste of my calories. LOL I sometimes remember to try to push them into subbing for me...sometimes they have things on the menu with other meals that should not be a problem to sub...like they put tomato slices on a burger so why not give me some sliced tomatoes? Oh well.

BTW...I guess that 0 fitbit activity was an auto post when I posted my other exercises before I had walked any. weird

Dad's birthday is the 22nd but the party is on Saturday, the 20th. The next Saturday we do to a party at my eldest stepsister's for her DH, daughter, grandson and granddaughter. John's birthday is the 29th, his brother's is the 19th. Lots of September birthdays between us!!

Today John is seeing a doctor about having electrodes implanted by his spine to cut the pain he is having. It's just informational. He wasn't going to even do this much so I'm glad he is now willing to at least hear about it. I'm not sure I'd be willing to do it either but it doesn't hurt to hear about it.

I'm struggling this month with my eating. Stress I think, coupled with idle hands. I need to stop excusing myself though and treat my body respectfully! How is it going for you?

Good Morning!
Decisions, decisions! I can't afford to not work for too long, once those student loan bills start arriving. We've been "scraping" by the last few years while I'm in school. I did all my schooling online though, so that allowed me lots of extra time with the kiddos! So even if I go back for my masters, I'll still have plenty of time with them. I either schooled early in the morning before they woke up or in the afternoon during their nap time. I wish I could afford to stay home until she went to school.
We need to move. There are 6 of us in this 3 bedroom apartment and there just isn't enough space anymore. But houses to rent in our area are expensive too, so we won't be able to move until I'm working.
Does that all make sense? :-)

Hope you are getting through some of that paperwork like you wanted too. I'm off to clean out the boys closet. It's a mess! I need some shelves or something in there, to keep it better organized. Gonna see what I can come up with :-)

Hope you have a great day!!
Hugs,
Beth

I made the brown rice recipe cooked in apple juice yesterday. It got mixed reviews but for the most part everyone liked it. DH loves white rice so would have preferred that.

Thanks for the input it is what I was thinking but thinking much harder today. This is a senior college and raw vegetables and dentures are not appealing. I have decided I might bake a big batch of brownies only once a month this happens. The seniors love it and they are not the ones who gobble them up but I will stick to the refreshments and follow what has been done for years. Pat
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I have thought this monthly concert fare would change. I feel sure our seniors who come from assisted living and nursing homes will have a treat and a good concert. THANKS Much love Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
