Closing in on 30lbs down and counting!
Trying to "watch my weight" for 5 years and watched it go up nearly 30 pounds; now it's going down. Thanks Spark! 6 1/2 years ago i had an infection that settled into my neck, compressed my spinal cord, and i was paralyzed from the neck down (2/12/04) until, after a trip to the ER, i had emergency surgery at 12:15 a.m, on friday the 13th (lucky day for me!). by 10:30 next morning i could move my left hand enough to push the call button and chnge t.v. channels (no coincidence to ...
Trying to "watch my weight" for 5 years and watched it go up nearly 30 pounds; now it's going down. Thanks Spark! 6 1/2 years ago i had an infection that settled into my neck, compressed my spinal cord, and i was paralyzed from the neck down (2/12/04) until, after a trip to the ER, i had emergency surgery at 12:15 a.m, on friday the 13th (lucky day for me!). by 10:30 next morning i could move my left hand enough to push the call button and chnge t.v. channels (no coincidence to me that Superman movie w/ chris reeve was on and then kevin costner in "field of dreams" was on in the p.m.) after 8 weeks in hospital, 6 mos out patient therapy and an unplanned 14 month sabbatical from my dental practice, i resumed practice and now walk using a brace on one leg and part-time use of a cane even though the neuro-surgeon said i might not walk again let alone practice dentistry. (what'd he know?!?) i lost weight when sick but lost muscle mass in my legs and packed on tummy. and as hard as i worked at losing weight including working out at the ymca and building strength, i was slowly ballooning. a year ago my wife discovered sparkpeople and started working the program until now she's lost almost 50 pounds. i began in january and am continuing to lose weight, my tummy's down, i've joined a gym (3 times a week) and have been consistent with tracking food n fitness. i'm enthusiastic and telling others and do believe that we are creating our realities and have the power to be as healthy as we wnt to be--if we're willing to believe in it. one regret: last christmas my wife took a photo of me asleep on the couch that showed my late-term "pregnancy" but sadly, at my request, was deleted from the digital camera. now my waist is down almost 2" and my 40" (and higher) waisted jeans and slacks are falling off. (yayyy!) i'm a "sparky" for sure. thanks to all the others out there who are showing that it is possible and serving as a motivator. 6/8/11: Breaking thru the plateau! Spent a week (mid-May) in sanibel, fl--required to survive on seafood, wine, & sunshine and picked up only 1.5 lbs that came off the week after our return. (usually pick up 6-10 on vacation--but we made our usual at-home breakfast in the condo and "sparked" each day. When I started spark, i was wearing 40-42" waist slacks. they've been falling off without using a cinched in belt. last saturday decided to get new jeans; going to get 38" waist. on a lark, tried on a 36" pair AND THEY FIT!! it';s been more than 20 years since i could button 36" slacks. fired up and ready to go for the last 6-8 lbs before reachin my goal. this is good!!
