This book is the third in a 3-book series and continues the story about a lady that lived in NW Iowa and moved as a teen to SW Minnesota. This second book contains stories of her courting years while her boyfriend (future husband) was a soldier during WWII. I like how the stories show how what was happening affected the life of ordinary people. A not difficult, fun read, but the author has obviously researched the time period to make sure everything is authentic.
My SP progress is listed below, but because this page ought to begin by reflecting who I really am, first of all, I must tell you that I am a Christian. I am eternally thankful for the gift of salvation which has been given to me (provided through the death of Christ on the cross). I am thankful that God has provided this way of salvation, because I know that I do not deserve it!
Second, I am a Christian wife, and I love children as evidenced by the fact that I taught them for 18 years. However, I never had any children of my own because I married too late in life. (Some say that was not reason enough, but for me as a Christian and educator that says it all.)
Just for the record, I started using this site on Wed., Jan 21, 2009. I know this isn't going to be easy, but I have got to lose weight for my health. The impetus for dieting was that my back went out, and I realized that the extra weight was likely contributing to the problem. I started walking again because I figure I needed to strengthen my back muscles! I chose walking because it is free and we can't afford gym memberships and fancy equipment.
A day or so later after my decision to lose weight, a dear niece told me about SparkPeople.com and I decided to join. It has been an unbelievably helpful tool and motivator in my journey to lose weight.
Here is a record of my progress so far.
01/21/09-280 lbs (start)
04/28/10-184.8 - Total = -95.2
Now it is 12/15/12 and I regained TOO much weight. I will be happy if I can maintain my weight at 200 lbs, and I am at 223 lbs! So as you can see, I need to get back with the program.
My New Year's resolution for 2013 is to get back to 200 lbs! With the help of my teammates and my husband, I WILL get back to where I was!! I will start tracking my food and my husband's food beginning in January.

Lose 80 pounds.
I am eating smaller portions, CHEWING most bites 20 times, putting utensils down frequently (anything to eat slower)!
I have increased my water intake, usually drinking 8 glasses a day. I love and eat lots of vegetables (usually steamed), and I am working on eating more fruits!
Up until the end of April, 2010, I used SP's Nutrition Tracker "religiously"!It helps me learn what PORTION size is all about (vs PORTION DISTORTION). :-)
I usually walk at 6 days a week for about an hour. I do the strengthening exercises which I have chosen (because they are ones which I can do at home without equipment). I do these exercises the recommended 3 times a week.
