Looking forward - and now moving ahead!

Early in 2009 I realized I had just under 3 years until I hit 60 and decided to get myself fit so that I could enjoy the things in life that I has let my size, and other things, prohibit. Little did I know what that entailed. Now I am there, I have a new knee that is healing well, I am newly single and so my journey now will be one of creating the person I want to be and getting into a healthy new routine by which to accomplish that. Thank you Annie for spotting me the comfort to explore. ...
Thank you Bob for helping me to care.

Life goes on and just like a good book a good life is made up of many chapters. When I first wrote my introduction I never expected that "getting ready to live" would include returning to life as a single. "...in order for us to live a star must die" ~Brian Cox. On August 1 2011 that came to pass.

Annie B you were and always will be my biggest supporter... You will be with me always... And still you will be missed. I love you yesterdays today and tomorrows... Rest in peace sweetie!

And again on December 10, 2011 my brother joined her. You, Bob, were the bridge over my generation gap, a supporter and critic all in one, and always there for me. I know you still are.. Now that your battle is over rest in peace bro'.

And as I began here in January 2010....

Supposedly I was a 'wirey' kid, as my mother said. I remember almost doubling my weight as I hit puberty. Aside from the 1 year that I was a phys ed major I have battled in the weight gain/loss game and not only lost but gained more. A couple of times quitting smoking added to the total. I don't know how much I kept myself from doing by being overweight.

Now it is time to get ready to really live before I hit 60

My Goals:
Near the end of 2011 I hit 60 and my goal when I started SP was by that time to be ready for a marathon, a century bike ride, or walk the NE part of the Appalachian Trail. Thiat didn't happen.

My goal now is to continue to lose weight, get more fit and strong, and to become more active - do those things I've wanted to do... hike, bike, kayak, run and ski if my knees permit... basically live life to the fullest that I can!

My Program:
Each day started out with a 15-20 minute walk with my partner Wally, a greyhound/lab Lurcher, who helps me keep my pace up. We are now walking 4-5 times a day and covering 2.5-3 miles! I am trying to eat right with a nutritionist-devised plan. And trying to give myself permission to change - I know it will be for the better!
I still struggle with the water drinking and getting to the gym for ST but all in due time.

Now in 2013 I've kicked the Y to the curb rather than continue to give them money and not go, and instead have enrolled in a 10 week 5K training group, a water jogging group that meets 2x a week, and have gone back to where I did my post knee replacement PT for ST, and am trying to get a space set up for that at home.

Yeah, I know. I get it. I had a rebel inside too. But whether you are telling yourself what to do or someone else is, if it's for the good of your health, maybe listening can be an option. BTW, I was commenting on your blog right after telling my hubby he ought to go out for a walk, which he refused to do. He refuses to do a lot of stuff and it only adds to the litany of health issues he has. He's not the only guilty party. I was once around 300 lbs. and refused to do anything about my weight because I wasn't having any of the "typical fat person's health issues." Little did I know what I was really doing to my innards until I had a huge problem with my gallbladder a couple of years ago which gave me time to reflect on all of those times I had gallbladder attacks and didn't even know it. Anyway, it's super difficult to read red type (which you can only see if you are typing in the comment box) on your green page so I will stop typing and wish you a great week and hope you are more into prevention than taking care of business after the fact. Life is easier if you prevent health issues before they can occur.
