A healthy lifestyle is something that I always wanted and always thought was out of reach. I am starting up using SparkPeople again in hopes that I can really make use of the motivational aspects of the site to help me make the lifestyle changes that I need.

As one might infer from the title of the page, I enjoy my sweets. I think one of the steps to my success is going to be NOT eliminating those foods from my diet, but rather counting them accurately and maintaining appropriate portion size.

I enjoy baking, particularly cakes and so I can see myself working to see just what I can create. I've never been a fan of "almost as good when you substitute" and so I'd rather just train myself NOT to see a quarter of a cake as the most reasonable portion size.

And with that, I know that my little twins will grow up thinking "Dad is great! He gives us chocolate cake!" (but in reasonable amounts and not all the time!)

With the start of 2012, I have come to confess that not only did I not give myself the rewards promised (see below), but I fell off the wagon completely and I'm back up where I was when I started in 2011. Not all the way, thankfully, but darn close.

The change occurred right when I changed jobs. My daily exercise stopped (new office, no walking route) and the stress levels skyrocketed. So, I'm working one step at a time now to return to the healthy habits I was building at the start of 2011.

As a reminder to myself that life will throw hurdles in your path, I'm going to keep the partially completed goal chart below and just start a new one so that I stay motivated AND I remember what it means to ACTUALLY reward yourself.

I have to update again. I never succeeded in building my routine into healthy habits. The kids were too little, and I value my time with them more than I valued time spent doing other things. So, for the close of 2013 and all of 2014, I am approaching this from a different space.
