"Be inefficient." --My Aunt

I'm a 32 year old mom of two, who has always lived an active lifestyle... until having kids. My mother was diagnosed with weight-related Type II diabetes, and with a family history, I want to avoid her fate, and set a healthy example for my kids.

I feel better. I look better. I AM better.

And I'm only getting started.

This is the window to my life. Join me on my journey to a better ME.

My Goals:
I want to teach my daughters to be healthy, active, and live well. Not just fad diet or not pay attention. I want to be healthy, I want to live long, I want to live strong. I want to lose my weight and feel great, and I want to do it RIGHT, so it sticks.

I plan to run the Tough Mudder in Georgia next year. I want to run a real 5k (not just walk it.) I want to eventually run a real marathon!

My Program:
I have altered my diet slowly, over the course of the last months. I started first by only restricting my calories on the foods I've always eaten. I didn't change anything but the volume of the food I was eating!

However, I've recently been making more and more healthy changes. It started by swapping half of my pasta for whole wheat! Since then, I've made small changes, incorporating more non-starchy veggies in my diet, zero-cal dressing to half of the salads I eat, more whole grains (Loving the 40 cal Nature's own whole grain bread) and fewer breakfast sandwiches from Burger King.

I've also built up from 30 minutes occasionally of walking, to 1-2 hours a day in the gym, with a complete full-body strength training program. I'm loving the energy I have, and am addicted to the BURN!

Now, I have a solid program. I hit the gym 3 times a week for at least an hour (usually boot camp), strength train, and more. My goals:

1) Walk 3 times a week with my who

Personal Information:
I live in Macon, GA, with my husband and two daughters (4 and 6). I am the Lead Forums Moderator for the Office of Letters and Light out of Berkeley, CA, the sponsors of NaNoWriMo. I never thought I would be a fitness nut, but I'm a total gym rat, love to exercise, and love the feeling I get. I used to suffer from severe depression, triggered by a year-long bout of post-partum depression, but getting fit and losing some weight has helped beat it back into remission.

Other Information:
I love to write, try new things, and get obsessed easily with things I get into, like this whole fitness thing. My husband teases me and calls me a fitness addict.

I hope he's right.

I live for my girls, and they're the whole reason I'm doing all of this, but I've found that it is good for ME, too. If I'm not healthy, they won't be, either!

I don't see me changing my weigh-in day is necessarily "gaming the system." Starving on Tuesday for a Wednesday weigh-in is gaming the system. Skipping a weigh-in because I had a slice of cake the night before is gaming the system.

All I did was look at my typical schedule and figure out the days I'm most likely to eat out and/or eat more food. For me, that tends to be over the weekend (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) and possibly Wednesdays after church. Since I know I'm more likely to have a false gain after these situations, I decided to schedule my weigh-in for a day that doesn't interfere with that.

Now, this doesn't mean I'll never eat out on a Thursday night, or that Thursdays will always be my cleanest eating days, but I wanted to pick a weigh-in day that fit best with my current schedule rather than trying to work my schedule around my weigh-in day.

Truth is, on Sundays, I'm more likely to go to this gathering where food is served. That's going to be the same no matter when I weigh in. It's not like I have a scheduled cheat right after weighing myself. I just have decided to not weigh myself after days when I am MOST likely to eat a little more than usual.

You know, I did know about the water retention after increased activity but it actually hadn't even occurred to me in this instance!!! That makes plenty of sense now. Thanks for pointing it out!
