Still on my journey...

Hi! My name is Diane and I'm a teacher from Wisconsin with 40 pounds to lose. I look forward to working with others to achieve my goals and help you achieve yours.

I originally joined this site in 2008 when I was at my most difficult point. It actually helped me through many decisions. In June 2009 I had gastric bypass surgery. I know many people may disagree with this choice but my health was deteriorating rapidly. My doctor suggested the surgery as a way to get some weight off fast. I have lost over 100 pounds so far. For me, it was a great tool.

Still I would like to lose 60 more and have been at the same weight for almost a year. I remember how much I enjoyed reading other people's posts here and how much inspiration it gave me.

This past year I let my work take over my life. I love my job but it became too much. I have tried to cut back significantly on the extra time but it has been a struggle. It's time to make me my primary concern. That will be key to me achieving my final goals.

"BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AWARD"
emoticon

You are the recipient of the Beautiful Woman Award!!

Once you've been given this award, you have to paste it on the page of 8 women who deserve it. If you receive more than 3, you know you're really beautiful! If you break the chain, nothing will happen, but it's always good to know someone thinks you're beautiful inside and out!

Again, Congratulations Beautiful!

Thanks for stopping by my page to read my blog and for your comments. Today is day 1 of change (again). I've had a lot of "day 1's" but hopefully this will be the start of a more successful journey. I never really ate a lot of dairy products until recently when my husband had back surgery and the surgeon found he had osteoporosis. The doctor's advice was to include more dairy in our diet because it's a good way to get extra calcium. I know dark green veggies do the same thing but it's harder to eat enough of them. We've both been taking calcium supplements too and my new doctor said that should be enough.

Hi emoticon Nice to meet you. I also joined SparkPeople originally in 2008. I had just retired from teaching and decided I would have time to devote to weight loss. The local district kept calling and asking me to take long-term sub jobs though, they were short science teachers and I was unable to say no. After 3 years of teaching AFTER retirement I finally told them, "Retired means you don't work any more, please stop calling me." It took me another 2 years to find my way back to SparkPeople though.
The hardest thing for me about retirement I think is the lack of a daily routine. My husband and I still get up at 4:00 am because that's the time I had to get up in order to make the 70 mile drive to work by 7:15. I've tried establishing a workout routine but it's not the same.

"Above all else, do NOT quit! The universe always bows to persistence.
The empowering approach is to see your physical challenges as assets, because overcoming obstacles forces you to develop discipline, determination and character.
These traits will carry over to other areas of your life and make you a stronger person.
