Doing It All Again...

Eleven years ago, I lost 160 pounds with the help of WWs. And then it dwindled down to about 40, despite various attempts to reverse the trend. Sounds terrible, but we're only talking about something like 10 pounds a year. The difference between gaining and losing weight is actually quite small!!!

Since February 21, 2012 when I started tracking food everyday on SparkPeople, I have lost 61 pounds (plus the 40 I never regained = 101 pounds overall).

I think ...

I think the reason the weight didn't stay off well before is because I didn't have the right nutrient balance. I have been shocked to discover I wasn't eating enough carbs and fats!!! No wonder my body complained so much. No wonder my brain fogged over!

I'm also trying to increase my activity level, but I can't walk the 2 or 3 miles a day that I used to because of a bum knee and exercises requiring a step to the side are actually painful. I recently purchased a cho-pat strap and it seems to be helping. There was a huge popping noise one night when I was doing some stretches. Maybe in a week or two I can try Curves after the knee restabilizes.

Always looking for more SparkFriends... love to hear from you. I also like to cook and bake and I have recipes to share... click on MORE and then Favorites on the drop-downs above.

Best wishes to all on our journey. We CAN do this!! I know we can... because I've done it once before. Knowing what's possible is a HUGE advantage!!

My Goals:
My goal here is to get back to where I was 11 years ago (lose 120 pounds). I started at the end of February 2012 and passed the halfway point on October 14, 2013 (60 pounds in 8 months). After 5 months of backsliding, I'm now setting out to do the second half!

My Program:
I'm eating about 1600 calories a day, tracking every bite, drinking 9 cups of water, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, and consciously increasing my activity level. I'm still looking for an exercise program that my bum foot and knee can handle.

Personal Information:
Librarian, SW Michigan.

Other Information:
Do you like my background? It's a collage from my flock of "electric sheep." These fractal-like creations attempt to answer Philip K. Dick's question: "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" The full collage is in my photo gallery :)

February is another one of those months when stores create magical candy-filled displays. Inside those foil-covered heart-shaped boxes festooned with lace, ribbons and fake flowers are chocolates that have been rattling around in their cardboard container since October--and they taste like it.

Treat yourself to something sweet and delicious that tastes like real food--crisp apples, juicy grapes, fresh pineapple, or a perfectly ripened pear. Just say no to cardboard.

Do the holiday things that make you happy and give yourself permission to let go of one or two of your most-dreaded holiday tasks.

Peace in this season of celebration,

Foodwise, there's tough week ahead. Steady as she goes is SUCCESS. Stay strong!
