I've joined SPARKPEOPLE to help motivate me to return to a healthy weight and activity level.

A little about myself:

I have been a professional Chef for 15 years. I've worked predominantly in hotels but also a few free standing restaurants and one bakery. Working in this industry has its perks and pitfalls. There is such a great variety of food that is tasty but not healthy. On the other hand, you can have access to a lot of healthy alternatives.

I have struggled with my weight throughout my teens and adult life. I reached my maximum weight of 285 in 2002. I had a major life changing experience in the late summer of that year that "sparked" me to start taking care of myself. I began to pay attention to what I ate and how healthy my choices were. The weight came off steadily so I thought it would be good to start exercising. I joined a local gym in February of 2003, after having lost 65 lbs through healthy eating. I continued to lose weight steadily until I reached my lowest weight of 170 in August of that same year. I leveled out at 185 in November that year and was able to keep the weight of until the fall of 2007, remaining faithful to good eating habits and regular exercise.

Another, similar life changing event caused me to "fall off the wagon". The weight came back slowly at first, until discouragement set in. Every time I tried to get back on track I failed and added a few more pounds. By July of 2009 I was back up to 220. Over the past 6 months I managed to gain another 30. That puts me at the 250 pound mark as I start this renewed effort to regain my health.

I feel confident that I can achieve my goals this time around. I am encouraged by all the support and useful tools on this web site and I am thankful to my Pastor's wife for sharing this site with me.

I'll try to be diligent in posting and endeavor to use my culinary experience to create some very tasty, very healthy, recipes to share with everyone.

I've posted some pictures of my way up the scale, starting at my lowest adult weight. I don't have any digital pictures of me prior to that but I promise to post new pictures as I make my way back down the scale.
