A Lovingly Made Bottle of Wine

My partner has a favorite song for me with lyrics that go "Like a lovingly made bottle of wine, you're 39, you're beautiful, you're mine." I'm 39 now and I'm planning to make my 39th year the one that fits closest to what I want for myself.

I want to live up to my potential; my deepest values and my aspiration. I feel like I wasted a lot of the last 10 years living someone else's life. I took back effective control in 2010 and that decision led to my taking back control of my ...

I took back effective control in 2010 and that decision led to my taking back control of my health and well being.

My goal is to live as close to my 'Happy Place' as I can. Being fit, capable and happy is who I want to be and who I am becoming.

Also (because I always wanna know ;-)) I'm 5'8". I started at 86.3kg (190lbs) and I'm heading back to 70kg (155lbs) BMI 23. After this goal is met I plan to make my body composition my main goal. I'd like to get below 20% body fat and I'll just accept whatever weight I'm at.

Update Dec 2012: My Christmas present was a Tanita Body Composition Scale. And it showed that even at 74kg (163lbs) I was 19% body fat, low visceral fat, high muscle mass. Wow! I still have visible love handles and a tummy however. I am aiming for 70kg but my body fat needs to not drop below about 15% as a female. Where my weight will be at this point I'm not sure. Also found out that I stuffed up my measurements and I am only 171cm or 5'7.3", not 5'8" or 174 as I had been calculating. Makes all my targets shift a bit...But reality is reality.

March 2013 Update: Ran my 22K Mountain Run which was a goal for this year. Now I have one more major event before my 40th. I'm finding however that as I improve and get better I want more. I'm less happy to just settle for good enough. Who knows where all this focus will take me!

Nov 2013: I hit 40. Yay! Now for new goals and new achievements. I've backslide a bit after dropping ST and going overseas but I know what works. Tracking. I've had so much success I know I can keep improving. I lost 13kg and ran several hard mountain runs. My fitness is really improving. My diet is much improved. I'm spending less at the supermarket. My kids are eating better. I'm enjoying my life with my partner. I have less anxiety and more effective control in my life. What's not to love about these achievements?!

Hi, thanks for the blueberries! Glad Tigger's starting to emerge again. No, I'm not training for any races at the moment. I have a very complicated relationship with running, so I don't do races. I've been thinking about doing some speed work though, and setting up a half-marathon with my best friend, just for kicks. How's your training going? What kind of marathon are you doing in April? Is it a trail run or a road race?

Thanks for adding me! Yes I do still get out in winter, its all about the layering! And good gear! Not as consistently as I would like, but I am working on it I have my goals and I am SO far out of shape!

My Mom died at 50, that weighs on me a lot and is why I started making changes at 35. Now I am feeling urgency, and also want to do something good for myself for turning 40. I was going to try to train for my favorite trail race as a single instead of a relay team (15 miles) but I didn't get far enough ahead in my re-conditioning to running. Now I vow to rock my leg of the relay in better time than ever!

Glad you enjoyed my blog. Now I can't wait to read yours! I read your posts in the Trail Running Team and am delighted to welcome another long-distance trail runner. But wow - you've got a bigger budget than me for running. Thousands per year? Those courses must have some fantastic scenery! Hope you have lots of pics in your blog :-)

Checked out your tripadvisor review, I liked it, voted it up! :-)

It does get cold here, and it does have an effect on the time I spend outside on exercise. Mostly, my times that I've spent on the bike commuting are gone.

What's your favourite exercise these days?

Hahaha, what's funny is that I think the same thing about celebrities sometimes! When I saw a picture of Victoria Beckham and her newborn I thought "Can she be trusted to actually feed that child"?
Thanks for commenting!
