H E L P ! ! ! My hubby just retired, discovered FaceBook(and is a goner there), we're moving to Florida in a couple of months and before I end up a self basting turkey I HAVE GOT TO LOSE SOME FAT!

I still work and want to continue to work especially after seeing what effect it's had on hubby. I'm ready to put a camera on his easy chair to see if he ever leaves it. LOL! I know he does...I see him go to bed at night at least.

Ever since my knees went out on me walking is PAIN... which is a shame because I really do like walking around the neighborhood. It's amazing to see how fast weight piles on when you suddenly can't walk. I'm hopeful though and I will just do 'baby steps' if need be.

I really hope that everyone here learns to enjoy their journey. C U on Spark!

My Goals:
I'm starting to simplify my life. No more hoarding. I've sent so much to the Vietnam Vets lately I don't believe it. Hubby and I have so much more to do. I would like to move to Florida with less luggage.

My Program:
One day at a time. Finding my way around here again and hopefully making friends along the way.

Personal Information:

I have few friends but the ones that I do have are priceless.

Other Information:
I love to read and am amazed with my Sony e-reader.

I use to be very crafty, making my own candles and sewing. I hope to get into that more after we move.

I'm a new Catholic and am reading the Douray-Rheims for the first time.

Thank you for encouraging me on my blog!

In my case, 20 pounds took me from nearly obese on the BMI chart to healthy. And I also adopted lifestyle changes - seriously revised my diet and exercised more frequently. :)

Hi! Thanks so much for the supportive comments :) I have to say, though, that I am actually FAR away from my goal....I've decided to do short-term goals now because it feels much less overwhelming to say I have 15 pounds to lose, than I have 80 pounds to lose. And I will (hopefully) have several successes along the way, rather than one more step completed towards a very distant goal. I have to play the mind games with myself :) emoticon

Hi, I am new to the site, and I saw a post you added to a yoga video. it is so inspiring that you have done so well and are able to walk without your cane. I see on your page that you are having trouble with your knees, so sorry. If you have to use your cane to enjoy your walks that is better than not walking. I just need encouragement to do anything!! thanks for sharing your story.

Hi - thanks for the "friend request"...I'm still trying to figure out how this part all works.....I had traditionally done very well on WW, but that change they made in December of 2010 really did me in. One of the things I like about Spark People is that, like your nutritionist said, calories are calories, and I didn't like having to work with WW's secret formula for assigning food values. I also like being able to track things like sodium and potassium since they are things I monitor. I had initially started back with a goal to lose 2 pounds per week, but I don't know what made me think I could do that since I haven't lost 2 pounds in 6 months - even with 90 minutes on the elliptical each week! So, I'll try again, with a slightly less aggressive goal. Good luck and keep in touch!

Where I live, Silver Sneakers is offered at the Y, and if you belong to the Y you can participate in it and everything that is offered there. In some communities, it is offered at other gyms and I don't know about their requirements. The "free" part comes in when you have Medicare and it is a benefit of the supplement you choose. Mine doesn't offer it as a benefit, so I joined the Y. Hope that makes a little sense/? LOL! Great exercise for those of us who need it on a different level that is a little less strenuous or geared for younger, more active people. Good luck! Jeannie
