Old Dog - Still Learning New Tricks

Long time fitness buff. While never being truly overweight, I have a hard time keeping my body fat percentage under control. I continue to strength train a few times a week. I've added swimming and bike riding into my fitness plan recently. Trying to do twice a week on each.

I started running at age 64, now 4 years later I've logged a few miles, including 6 marathons.

I completed my first Sprint Triathlon at age 66. My goal now is to complete an Olympic Triathlon, ...

I completed my first Sprint Triathlon at age 66. My goal now is to complete an Olympic Triathlon, (done: 8/17/14) then a 70.3 if I can get my bike speed/endurance up. (edit: done, 4/12/2015)

Dear Vic,

I am glad you found my “Wildflower” blog a “bright spot”. I try to keep my blogs about fitness and/or nutrition. This one was more about the beauty of the things I see day-to-day as I walk my dog, run or ride my bike.

I never really know what I am going to write when I start a blog. The flooding of Cherry Creek and the Platte River has put a damper on running or bike riding along the Cherry Creek path. But all the water has really brought the arid mountains to life.

Thanks, Bruce

Hi Vic,

Thanks for the link to “Martyn Ashton - Back on Track”. This man has some serious skills and near super human determination. On the winding trail, he was using his front brake to initiate a front wheel stand. He then used the momentum of the bike to make an incredibly sharp turn. He used counter-steering to lean the bike.

His bike suspension also has incredibly long travel to smooth the ride since he cannot stand to absorb bumps. His buddies are also great riders that know exactly where Martyn needs assistance.

Very inspirational and humbling.

Thanks, Bruce

Just read your goals met and I mustsay you are an inspiration to all. For an "old dog" you sure have plenty of tricks up your sleeve. I think being in my60's has been the best healthy milestone ever so maybe being 60 is the magical age to start really caring more about ourselves and our fitness level.

CONGRATUALIONS on all of your accomplishments. YOU are AWESOME!
Also, many thanks for the good wishes on my BLOG RE: my new great grand child.
