Edited 3-4-2014: The following is what I wrote during my "first" successful weight loss attempt. As I re-read it after regaining 35 of the 45+ pounds I lost in 2010-2011, it's a great reminder of WHY I need to stay active, healthy & positive!


After many, many tries at losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle in the past 20 years, I finally reached "rock bottom" in the summer of 2010. While I wasn't at my heaviest weight, I was definitely the most out of shape and flabby that I have ever been. Although I'd been trying my best to avoid cameras, it's tough to do when you'd like to document your existence (at least occasionally!) for your young daughters. :)

The specific picture that pushed me over the edge was taken on July 5th while at a friend's house for the Independence Day parade. What I saw shocked me. Needless to say, my perception of my appearance most definitely did not match up with what I saw in that picture. I saw a thick, unhealthy, frumpy stay-at-home mom, and I was ashamed. I was taking after all of my female relatives who let themselves go once they had kids, and I was setting my daughters up to do the same thing as they got older.

A couple weeks later, after lots of deep thought and reflection on what I want out of life, I logged back onto SP for the first time in 3.5 years. Since then, I've started to become the more positive, active person that I've always wanted to be. I still have a long way to go, but for once I believe in myself, I like myself and know that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.

*I eat balanced meals as well as healthy snacks throughout the day to keep my blood sugar levels stable.

*I try to eat whole foods as much as possible.

*Exercise 3-4x per week.
