Looking Ahead to a Healthy Life
I lost 33 pounds in 2011 with SparkPeople (without even owning a bathroom scale!), but I struggle the last half of the year, EVERY year. The last five or six months of the year are my busiest months for work, so I quit working out and I always cave with lots of holiday food temptation. Luckily, using what I learned from SP, I have still maintained a healthy BMI these past couple of years – just barely though! On Jan. 1, 2013, I weighed in at 131, putting my BMI a fraction below 25 = BORDERLINE OVERWEIGHT. Eek! NO!! I won't go back to that awful place!! I do finally own a scale and will be weighing in weekly now. I will also be tracking every calorie, cutting back to one cup of coffee daily, and trimming out as much junk, alcohol, eating out/takeout and processed foods as possible. All of these combined for me have worked to drop pounds in the past. I struggle much more with maintenance than actually losing weight. I'm easing myself back into working out using my Jillian Michaels' DVDs. I will do a round of '30 Day Shred' with yoga and gazelle workouts in January. Then I'll be adding 'Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism' and 'No More Trouble Zones' in February with doubled-up '30 Day Shred' workouts mixed in. My goal is to be around 120# by the end of February. Hopefully with diligence, I can get back to doing P90x in March, April and May. I only made it halfway through P90x last year, but it was amazing how strong I got. It was the first time in my life where I could do 'real' push-ups. I don't look to lose weight through P90x – I do those workouts for building muscle and strength. I'm hoping that I am able to get through a full round (13 weeks) this time. My overall 2013 goal is to get my weight down to around 115# and do a better job of maintaining that through the fall and holidays. I want to break the cycle of needing to lose these same 5-10 pounds at the start of every year!

My Goals:
This is my third year with SparkPeople. I had great success losing 30+ pounds in 2011and am working to build strength and tone up a bit. The joy for me is challenging myself to be a better person and has little to do with reaching a number on the scale. Any weight I lose along the way is icing on the cake!
My Program:
I currently rotate between Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, NMTZ and BFBM circuit training almost every day of the week. In addition, I hop on our gazelle when I can. I am always looking for new workouts online to try: yoga, pilates, bookcamps, C25K... there are so many FREE resources out there!
Personal Information:
My husband and I live in Pittsburgh with our three cats. (Go Steelers!) I am a graphic designer working from home doing freelance for some great companies - mainly nonprofit organizations and educational institutions.
Other Information:
God's higher up & sees further down the road. "Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." - Thomas A. Edison “People are so placated by groups that say, ‘Start by taking the stairs,” says Jillian Michaels. “What? That makes people think, ‘I’m so fragile, I can barely take the staircase.’” In fact, she says, the human body can withstand a lot—and increasing the intensity of your workout is one of the fastest ways to burn calories and lose weight. “The more we hear this false message of lethargy, the more we believe it,” she says. “As humans, we have evolved to the point where the sky is not the limit. Your capabilities are, in fact, limitless.”
