BJ's Healthy Eating Goals
After suffering a heart attack and open heart surgery in April 2007, I am now more diligently trying to maintain a LOW-FAT, LOW-SALT eating pattern. You know, one of those 'nothing tastes good' diet the docs love to put us on. Some of it is easy and other parts are more difficult to maintain. I am hoping this site will help me to stay on course. 8/14/08 Update. Well, I have put on the weight that I lost! My doctor put me on Paxil to help with the anxiety/anger issues I have ...
My doctor put me on Paxil to help with the anxiety/anger issues I have at work and the dang thing makes me want to eat, eat, eat! I get to work and the stress sets in and I EAT! I take a bag of mini-carrots and lots of fruits with me nightly which helps with that eating craving but when those stop satisfying, I move on to something less healthy. I need to find a solution to this setback and soon! 2/11/09 Update. Well, here it is another year and no closer to getting the weight off that I have put on since last summer. I have even put on more weight and have managed to creep up to between 145-148! Work is even more stressful as they changed my hours and now instead of having every Sat., Sun. & Monday off except for my weekend to work, I am now only doing 6 1/2 hours a night but to keep my full-time benefits, I have to work 11 out of 14 days instead of 6 out of 14. It sucks! I am at work almost daily where there is always something fattening to eat. Someone is always bringing in cookies, cake, etc to snack on. Not one person brings fruits or veggies! What is up with that? Well, most do not have to watch what they eat or don't care what they eat. My husband does almost all of the cooking here when we eat at home. He LOVES to cook and has been doing a great job at preparing low fat, low salt healthy dishes but he is a truck driver and is only home on weekends. Also, with my new work schedule, I don't have the opportunity to take my daily 1-2 mile walk on my days off. I am looking at treadmills so I have ready access to 'walking' and will be able to use it whenever I have a few minutes to spare.

My Goals:
I want to lose at least 10 pounds but would be happy with just getting the 5 back off that I regained. With winter coming, I need to find more ways to get in some activity daily as it will be too cold and nasty to walk the neighborhood each day.
My Program:
I went to a hypnotist for weight loss which seems to help me with my 'stress' eating at work. I also am eating more chicken and veggies. Summer helps with that as fresh veggies are easier to get and taste so much better than the store bought processessed stuff. Fruits are much more available and tasty, too. The main thing is PORTION SIZE. I also try to walk daily but since returning to work, I am having a problem sticking to that goal. And with winter coming it will become even more difficult to do.
Personal Information:
My husband and I have been married for 39 years. I work as a unit secretary in our local emergency room and my husband is an over the road truck driver. Our son Jeff is married to Cindy and they have two children. Alexis is 13 and Scott is 12. Our daughter Janene is married to Ray and has given us the joy of our life right now. Miss Violet is 32 months old and is helping to keep us young. She is such a happy and fun child who doesn't walk anywhere but RUNS! We just can't replace that wonderul feeling that we get when she comes running and looks at us like we were the best thing in the world. You can't buy therapy like that! And just like with the two older grandkids, it won't last forever so we enjoy it as much as we can while she still adores us.
Other Information:
I enjoy scrapbooking and a little stamping. I have great plans to finish scrapping 100's of family pics but the key is actually getting it done! I also like reading James Patterson, Jonathon Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, Elizabeth Peters. I have made it through all of each authors books. They don't write fast enough for me! I am currently going through the Erica Spindler books.
