Welcome. I'm Brian and this is where I post my goals and accomplishments on SparkPeople.com. I love to hike, bike and be outdoors. I am on a journey towards health and happiness. My biggest obstacle along this road is emotional eating.

I'm always making plans, setting new goals and challenging myself. I recently took up running and mountain biking. Stop by often to see what I'm up to. Leave comments or suggestions below.

Mindfulness:
~ Start the day with yoga
~ End the day in loving kindness
~ Take mindful moments on the back porch

Workout plan:
~ Tuesday, Thursday- Run (40 - 60 minutes)
~ Monday, Wednesday - Strength
~ Wednesday, Saturday - Cross (hiking/biking)
~ Rest - Friday
~ Sunday - Long slow run

Meal plan:
~ Eat a mainly plant-based diet
~ Weekly meal plans and daily journalling
~ 5:2 juicing challenge

Other:
~ Participate in the seasonal 5% Challenge
~ Stay connected to my Spark Friends
~ lead and in
~ Change my program regularly to stay engaged



Personal Information:
I live in the Pacific Northwest near Seattle. I'm a 50-something technical writer, mountaineer, bicycler, hiker, illustrator, gardener, runner and father of one. I lost my wife in 2014 after an 11 year battle with cancer. I love dogs, but I live with a cat. We don't seem to mind.

    I categorized 7 different Workout Routines and put each one on my calendar for a different day of the week. Now to make sure I do them!

    emoticon emoticon emoticon Two are routines from the 30 Days Skinny Jeans Challenge that helped me go down two sizes. One I called "Spark TV" and I''ll choose something from their links. One I called Index Cards. I have a card catalogue of physical therapy exercises (for every part of the body) from which I can choose. The cards also include "Balance Ball" and "Resistance Bands" options. One is "Standing Core" exercises, while another is "Fitness Blender's 10x10 Squats Challenge". The final one is "Wild Card" where I can choose anything, including a nap :) I concentrated on lower body because that's where I need the most help.

    emoticon My goal is to travel back in time form the (1)90's to the (1)80's for this challenge! I don't know how I will celebrate the 80's, but I'm buying a poodle skirt when I reach the 150's!
