Summer 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment:

I have a tendency to over commit on exercise so for this summer 5% challenge I am going to make it simple. Consistently do 60 minutes of exercise a minimum of 6 days per week. My exercise will include a variety of: yoga, aqua zumba, qigong, walking, biking and strength. My goal is to cover 10,000 steps daily, or an average of 10,000 steps every day.

Summer 5% Nutrition Plan:

For the summer 5% challenge I will be following the Weight Watchers diet plan, lessen sugar intake by substituting fruit for the less healthy junk food sweets, increase my vegetables to 3 per day most days, and eat minimal processed foods.

I think that tracking is very important for success and I haven't been doing that so well, so my commitment for the summer challenge is to track even if it is just writing down everything I eat most days.

On my team page I will daily record my exercise and Living the Good Life points, and I will weigh and record my weight weekly. I will check with my team at least three times per week. I will visit team members' pages and blogs as much as I can.

I will STAY FOCUSED and NEVER GIVE UP!

My 2014 goals:

1. Accumulate 1,100 miles through walking, biking, or use of the elliptical.
2. Allow myself to heal from my loss.
3. Achieve my goal weight by losing 4 pounds monthly

My Program:
60 minutes yoga three times weekly
60 minutes Qigong once weekly
15 minutes strength three times weekly
30 cardio four times weekly


Personal Information:
My name is Barbara, aka Barbie. I live in Roseburg, Oregon. I will turn 64 in May, recently widowed on November 12, 2013. I have three children, a grown daughter who has a 21 year old daughter and a 15 year old son; a grown son who has a son who will be 17 at the end of April; and I had one son who died 21 years ago at the age of 15+ in a downhill skiing accident. I retired just a couple of months before my husband became so ill, so now that he is gone, I am learning how to fill my days.

Other Information:
I got a dog after my husband's death, a Padderdale Terrier (looks like a miniature black lab), named Marv in memory of my husband who had a collection of Marvin the Martian things.
I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, card making, quilting, and knitting. I am learning how to take care of the lawn and garden which were Bill's pride and joy. I love the sunshine and being outdoors.
