Taking it one day at a time to become a more and more healthy person!

I have been living in Arizona since 2003 and have slowly and steadily fallen in love with the desert. My high school sweat-heart (and now husband) moved out to AZ (from Ohio) in 2005 and since then, I have come to experience beautiful parts of the state that I never even knew existed. I love the great outdoors, especially hiking and camping... with the occasional rock-climbing adventure.

Currently, I'm working 2 jobs and attending school part-time. I am a part-time Special Education Teacher in Tempe. After I finish teaching my half-day schedule, I head over to Scottsdale Community College to complete prerequisites for graduate school. I also work twice a week at my synagogue, where I work with kids as a teacher and as a youth advisor. Next year I will be attending AT Still University in Mesa to pursue a master's degree in Occupational Therapy. I can't wait to begin classes. It will be such an exciting career.

I love being on SparkPeople because it has helped me take action to become a more healthy individual. Before Spark People I was eating whatever I wanted when I was stressed, without realizing that my metabolism was not the same as it was in college. Since beginning SparkPeople I have lost 15 pounds and completed a 1/2 marathon. I feel super-healthy and couldn't be happier with my body.

    My boyfriend and I just signed up for the Warrior Dash as well!! I have a long way to go before I can run 3.4 miles though. lol. Good Luck and maybe I'll see you there!

    I found it different cooking for two or more than just for myself. Part of it was it took me a while to figure out how much should really be in a portion. And, I had to realize that my portions should be smaller than those for DH.

    Be sure to be active on a few spark teams to help develop a network of buddies. You are welcome to join us on any of the teams that are linked with my signature below. They are small enough teams for people to get to know each other, but big enough that there is somebody who has time to visit a number of times a day.

    I like to set very short term goals. My current goal is to lose 8# in 8 weeks. That works better for me than to say I want to lose 20. I have learned portion control by using the nutrition tracker. I have found I don't lose without exercise.
