Hello, I'm from Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. I joined spark because I want to change my sedentary habits, and learn more about the way I eat.

I used to be very active when I was younger, walking everywhere, playing volleyball, and going for hikes, but after becoming a mother this changed. Suddenly getting as much done as possible was more of a priority, and so I drove everywhere I went.

I also considered myself a very healthy eater. I still do, but I just assumed I could lose weight by increasing my activity and reducing my portion size. This didn't seem to produce any results at all. I had no idea how many calories I was consuming to begin with. Even though I was eating healthy food, I was eating a lot of it. Plus, I had no idea how little fiber I was getting, among other things.

So far I've been pretty impressed with this site. I'm not an organized person at all, so I like having my strength exercises chosen for me, and everything scheduled as it should be. I feel more accountable now. I'm not really following the scheduled meals the same way. I keep them turned on as a guide, but I am a very choosy consumer. There are many products I won't purchase, because I don't want to support the company. Plus, I'm also into eating whole foods as much as possible, so no egg white omelets for me.

So far things have being going pretty well. I'm excited, and optimistic, and Iook forward to meeting some of you around here.

Fitness Minutes: 17,743

My Goals:
My first goal is to get down to 130 lbs. I am comfortable at that weight.
Ideally, I'd like to get down to 125 lbs, but I'm starting with 130, and I'll reassess things at that point.
I've reached the goal of wearing a bikini although I'm not proud of the fit necessarily every day. Now, I'd like to leaner, more toned, rather than just smaller.


My Program:
I've removed bread and pasta from my diet, for the most part. I'm eating a more Japanese inspired diet.

Starting this month I will be doing hot yoga a minimum of three times a week. I hope to be going for more walks, and the occasional swim as well. I also may supplement with resistance training or the occasional turbojam or turbofire class as the mood strikes me.



Personal Information:
I'm from Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada.
I am 37, and I homeschool my 8 year old son. I am a recovering vegetarian, and my wonderful husband is vegan.
I used to be a radio dj playing mostly jam band music. I love the Grateful Dead, and bluegrass, and just about every kind of music imaginable.
I'm an artist, and an avid knitter. I'm looking forward to using less yarn to make my clothes.

I love Tom Robbins books, books on ayurveda and other methods of alternative healing/living.
