It has been over a year since I updated my Spark Page! Continue to contend with my desire to lose weight but at least I continue to stick with it. Have joined Weight Watchers and have experienced some progress, most especially learning how to eat healthy in the real world which adds to my skills to lead a healthy lifestyle. I've had one dream come true in that I finally made the purchase of my first Registered Irish Draught horse and am loving the experience of being her Mom! My second son graduated from college and is off to pursue his master's in chemistry and my daughter has gotten engaged for an October 2011 wedding! Just the motivation I need to get the pounds off and look great for that special day. I found my dress Saturday and if I had to wear it as I am right now, I'd be okay with that, but my intention is to lose even more and get in even better shape so I look and feel even better in it than I already do! We started building our house, and hope to be in it by September of this year! So life is moving along wonderfully and I'm all the more determined to continue to be smart about how I live my life! Looking forwarding to reconnecting with friends here on SP!

Time to jump start again. I've been virtually absent from Sparkpeople for the last several months, really trying to regroup after getting totally engrossed in all that is available here. As I have done that, my 'gym' work and my 'running' work has been non-exisitent for the most part for the last 6 weeks or so, but I have been regular in my horseback riding each week. I'm satisfied that as I've gone through this time of settling, I've not gained the weight back, but for a pound or two.
So now I'm jump starting again. Getting ready to head out to do something outside to get my heart rate up and break a sweat. So excited that SP is finally available on the Droid! Going to hit this thing again, see if I can lose another 10 - 20 pounds and then take another sabbatical, if you will. That way, I can know that I'm losing in a sustainable sort of way! Here we go!

Tomorrow marks my One Year Anniversary with SparkPeople! I've joined the BOOT CAMP, and as a part of today's challenge, I'm updating my page to reflect my goals for this challenge:
First and foremost, my #1 goal is to remain consistent in my physical activity. I plan on completing the Boot Camp Videos EVERY DAY, getting in at least 30 minutes of cardio 5 days per week as well as 30 minutes of strength training each day.
My second goal is to remain consistent in my nutritional consumption. I"m going to track my daily intake and remain within my calorie ranges each day, including weekends!
(1/6/2010 - As I've slowly read "The Spark", I've come up with another goal - I will lose 20 pounds by May 1, 2010)
I will check in each day to update this section to demonstrate how I've accomplished my daily goals!

I've posted this to my blog but I'm going to add it here, as my weekly reflection: My challenge for this week is keeping my momentum going at the end of the week. I do great in the early part of the week, I think because my schedule is tight so I HAVE to get things in if I'm going to. The latter part of the week is a little more flexible, and my scheduled cardio for Wednesdays and Fridays don't happen until the middle part of the day, so that gets me out of my routine of getting in early in the AM and doing my exercises.
What will be my approach? I think I will continue to get up early on Wednesday and Friday to do a workout video in addition to my horseback riding lesson for my cardio. That way, my routine stays the same and I will be better at being consistent. Besides, if I get up and do it while I'm still asleep, I'll be none the wiser, and can feel good about getting it done! hehe! I'll keep you posted on my progress!

December 28, 2009 - I haven't updated this introduction text in a while pertaining to my 'journey', so I thought I'd do that today, as my one year anniversary with Spark People approaches. I'm happy with my year, although I didn't make my December 20th goal of having lost 50 pounds. That is okay, though, because I've been consistent in my focus to be healthier overall, and have managed to lose and keep off 20 pounds. I'm still going, though, and enjoying creating variety in my exercise, as well as making healthy changes to the way I eat!
I'm starting out the year by joining the Boot Camp Challenge here on Sparkpeople, participating in the Jillian Michael's 30 Day and continuing my riding lessons. I still want to do the Couch to 5K, but I want to be realistic, too! I'm going to try to incorporate some additional trips to the gym in each week, but otherwise, this is the plan.
So here's to 2010! Let's all have a great 2010!
1/4/2009 - I learned about Spark People via my cousin, (Cleo224!) and really thought it was a neat place to find like-minded people who were looking to live a healthier lifesyle in a supportive environment. Looking forward to the adventure!
2/5/2009 - Well, I will soon complete my 5th week on Spark People. I can't say enough about the resources on this site. It has been such a help to stay motivated to exercise regularly, eat right and learn more about health, fitness and nutrition. I've learned so much so far on this journey, and still love the process!
4/5/2009 - Three months on Spark People, and 25 pounds lost! What amazing progress! So much of what I have learned and practiced has become integrated into my life. Food no longer holds me captive, and there is such freedom in that! I actually prefer to make healthier choices, and do not miss the things that put the weight on me in the first place! I really haven't deprived myself of anything, I've just begun practicing moderation! I've never been any good at moderation! Abstinence I can do! Moderation is not my forte!
Here are some of the changes I've noticed over the past few months:
- I can feel the muscles in my stomach! There is still some fat there, so I'm working on getting rid of that, but I can actually FEEL the muscles!
-I have stamina to complete cardiovascular exercises for more than 5 - 10 minutes!
-I love the rowing machine!
-I can do knee and leg raises on a captian's chair!
-I no longer mind the taste of fat free, bottled ranch dressing! I used to only eat homemade, Hidden Valley, ranch dressing made with MAYO and Milk!
-I do not miss drinking coke!
-I need to get new jeans!
-I love Spark People!
Oh, my reward for my first 12 weeks on Spark People is that I am going to buy myself a new pair of gym / running shoes!
And my short term goal for myself for the Fit, Fabulous and Forty Something April Team Challenge is to stay within my calorie / fat / protein / carb range each day!
4/23/2009 - Well, I've not had any weight loss this month at all, and I've been TERRIBLE about being consistent in my exercising....Granted I've been out of town, and am going out of town again next week, but that doesn't matter! So I'm going to give myself an extra challenge of weight loss goals for each week - 1 LB per week for the month of May. Let's see if this helps! I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

5/8 - 180

My main goal is to be intentional about living a healthier lifestyle! I plan to practice making good health decisions, both in terms of the food I eat and the way I spend my time, i.e., MOVING, with the result of feeling better, looking better, having more energy and being able to participate in more ACTIVE activities!
I want to get into good enough shape where I can confidently begin horseback riding lessons without feeling like I'm making the horse work harder than it should just because I'm on his back!
I've committed to participating in my first 5K Walk/Run event on March 7, 2009, in support of our Troops!!
I am striving to give myself credit for the little things, for example, recognizing that not drinking 4 cokes at one meal makes any meal more healthy!
I watch what I eat, trying to make the healtiest choice, and not setting myself up for failure by trying to starve myself for weightloss.
In terms of exercise, I am going to do something where I MOVE everyday! Walking the dog, doing an excercise video, going to the gym, working out on the elliptical machine, riding horses, strength training with machines and free weights. Just mixing it all up so that I am MOVING and having a good time at it!
I'm just going to try to do things a little better everyday because it is in changing the little things that we make the biggest differences in the long run!
I have run in my first 5K, but had not officially trained prior to the race. I'm now officially training with the goal to run my first 5K in its entirety by October
I am originally from the central region of North Carolina.
I am married to a wonderful, supportive husband who is my best coach, teacher, supporter and encourager.
I am the proud mother of four children, three boys and one girl.
I love animals, and currently own one Australian Shepherd, Woody; Siamese, George; domestic shorthair, Dusty, and Burmese / Siamese mix, Sammy!
I love the Lord, and claim Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. I believe that he is the one and only Son of God who came to this earth for the purpose of dying on the cross so that I could be reconciled, though a sinner, to a Holy, Perfect God. This is His free gift to me. All I must do is accept that he did this, confess that I am a sinner, and repent and turn away from my sins. In this, I know that I have eternal life in Him. Does that make me perfect? Far from it. But God is working in me to make me strive to be more like him, and honor and glorify Him in all I do and say! This gift is freely available to all who ask, and if you'd like to know more, I'd consider it an honor to share my experience with the Lord with you. Just drop me a note!
