Shared Food & Fitness Trackers

I'm back on Spark actively for the summer trying to combat the 30 lbs I gained over the course of my first year of graduate school. After a few weeks of easing into it, I am comfortably eating healthy, mostly homemade meals again. I've lost 1.5 lbs, which isn't a lot but is a move in the opposite direction so I'm thrilled. I'm confident that my healthy living over the summer will have results, but I'm worried about starting school again in the Fall (and the stress and lack of time that will come from it. However, I'm trying to think of ways to make healthy eating easier and more intuitive...basically I'm trying to come up with a plan. I guess what it boils down to is that I know how to live healthfully during certain circumstances, but I still need to learn what works for me in others. Good luck to me.
(After I first joined Spark and lost some weight I wrote:)
I was worried about the effect of huge binges on my body's health. I wanted to have a slimmer body, but I always thought that losing weight meant barely eating anything and eating simple things you didn't cook. I love food and love cooking (so much that I actually don't like having leftovers because it means I don't get the exciting build-up to my meal that the cooking experience gives me), so I had sort of resigned myself to being larger than I wanted to be (or than was healthy).
Through SP, I have realized that when I lost weight in the past, I almost certainly was eating too little, or at least not filling my diet with foods that you can eat a lot of for fewer calories. I was trying to eat less without doing the math, and so I had no idea where I stood. SP has made the math easy and kind of fun--I track a lot of nutrients as well as the default items, so I like to look throughout the day and think of things to eat that could boost my iron, or whatever is low that day (often iron). I also am amazed (and thrilled!) at the volume of food I can pack into my allotted calories. Losing weight has actually been really easy, because I don't have to deny myself food if I'm hungry (as I would have in the past, and then I would have eaten much more later).
I am also fully on board with the exercising. I love yoga for the way it strengthens my body all over. I also run and bike outside, and have started doing spinning classes, since it is winter. I always hated exercise when I was younger, but over the years I have slowly grown to love it, in a way.
Now I have lost 20 lbs (so far) and I feel really healthy. I am no longer worried about overeating affecting my health, because I don't do it. Well, sometimes I go beyond my calorie range, but I no longer have huge binge sessions that make me feel sick. I feel much more attractive now, and much more confident about physical activities. I love that I could get thrown into a hike, and while I might not be the best hiker, I would be able to hold my own and accomplish the task.
These past two months have been very difficult for me emotionally, so I am very proud of my ability to maintain a healthy diet and level of physical activity.
Thanks for stopping by, and good luck!
high weight : 186

5/26/2009 : 143.5 (lowest in 6 years!)

(school stress gain)
Yoga at least once a week (I have been pretty good about this, so it's one thing during school that I'm confident I can continue).
I love cooking and being creative, but school saps the cooking creativity out of me, so I am still working on a food plan.

I hope you are having fun riding your bike. I did the same this weekend.
Thanks for your comment about my blog. I sometimes feel like I am the only one experiencing the challenges of struggling to stay on track daily. I am an "all or nothing girl." I also know my triggers...probably from all the years of dieting but this time it is different. Lifestyle change that is what it is all about. Oh by the way...congrats on how close you are to your goal....keep on keeping on...
