Stephie's Physical Goal has been MET!
It is now 2013! 2012 was a weird year for me, but I made it to my weight goal! I have been able to maintain for many months now. Fluctuations here and there. I still track my food, even bad days. I track ALL my fitness. (That part is the best for me.) I work hard to find time to exercise, because when I don't, I feel bad. It's my routine now, it's a must do! I love it! I track ALL my fitness. (That part is the best for me.) I work hard to find time to exercise, because when I don't, I feel bad. It's my routine now, it's a must do! I love it! I continue to be motivated by all you Sparklers on a daily basis. I read that you have or will do some kind of exercise, and if I'm not feeling up to exercise, well I get off my butt and get moving! I have to thank a lot of you for your status updates that really drive me to that next level.
I still have my lazy days, I still have my emotional eating days, I still have my over my calorie allotment days, but the main thing I don't do is give up. I always get back to doing it right. I keep myself active, I find ways to make it happen. Now that I have been very successful in my weight loss and maintaining phase, I am hoping to improve upon other areas of my life. It has been hard, but I know that if I want to improve upon them as I have done with my weight, then I must make time for it!
I started this journey in January 2011. This is how it happened....
I was looking for an application on my Android phone for making "healthy recipes". Low and behold, it was sparkrecipes! For some reason, I went on to the computer and found this website. Most likely Sparkrecipes.com took me to Sparkpeople. I noticed what it was and I thought, hmm, it's free, let's try it! (I was a full-time student with a 1-year old on my hands...money/time was an issue.) Ever since, I have been hooked.
I did not initially have success with tracking food and exercise. I had no change in my weight. For the first few months, I struggled with getting my calorie range met. I had a lot of things going on in my life at that time, and it literally took me 3 months to figure out how to change my diet to meet the various quotas. I found my 'culprits', curbed and substituted. It was a long learning process!
Then after spring quarter, I made this exercise commitment with 2 wonderful friends, to go walking with them almost every day. However, I ended up with pneumonia, which made it VERY difficult to start my new exercise program. The doctor even got mad at me after I told them I had attempted to walk, but got short of breath rather quickly. Oops, guess you're not supposed to do that, but I was antsy! Pneumonia put me back 3 months!
It wasn't until June 2011, that the hardcore Sparkpeople tracking and exercise regimen came into effect. That was the beginning of my transformation. I was STUCK at 202 lbs. for 2 months. TWO MONTHS!!! I should have given up. I could NOT believe it. I was tracking my food, eating the right calorie amounts, meeting my fitness minutes and calorie burn weekly. NOTHING on that scale. However, I took pictures weekly, to view my progress in other ways. I also took measurements (encouraged my friend to do so) I got the picture taking idea from a Sparkler. I noticed the weekly changes in me from the pictures, even though the scale would not budge. In the first month of being stuck at 202, I finally noticed changes in my clothing. It should have discouraged me to stop. This all should have been all for naught! However, I was very active then on the boards, reading, researching, talking with my friends about it, trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong, or if I was doing something right. The one message I kept hearing from Sparklers and my friends, "don't give up, just keep doing it!" My friends would always cheer me on, even for the smallest thing. I now understand better why they were so enthusiastic, because those small things make bigger things happen!
Two months later, the weight started to come off, but only 1-2 lbs. at a time. I think I had 2 moments that I actually lost 3 lbs. I plateaued every month, for 2 weeks. It was a pattern I noticed from looking at Sparkpeople's chart. THANK YOU for that visual chart!!! Once I realized the trend of the plateau, I would not let myself get discouraged, simply kept doing what I needed to do. Then 2012 hit, and a BIG transformation happened. I finally was able to go into my closet and put on my clothes that were 2-3 years old. Maybe even more for some! My face changed drastically and you could finally see my form. It was amazing! I still had more weight to lose, but this was the first time I could 'see' with my own eyes the transformation.
I left obesity and become overweight in November 2011 (174 lbs.). I was considered "healthy" on May 17th, 2012 (145 lbs.)! After that, I thought 130 would be a good weight to stop at, but once I hit 135 lbs., I felt that I was looking too thin. I decided to maintain my current weight of 135 lbs., in October 2012. My total weight loss is 66 pounds. I still cannot believe I have done it. It was a lot of work and when you put in the work, you get the results! I have learned so much and I know I have much more to learn. I have non-physical goals to reach now. I am hoping that I can translate what I have learned from all that Sparkpeople has shown me, in those other areas. It's about community, commitment, and tracking! It's about getting up and DOING it!
Thanks to this website, it has given me the confidence and strength to overcome not only my physical issues, but some very deep emotional ones as well. I did this on my own, (granted I had support), but I DID THIS. It really made me have confidence in myself again, which I truly needed.
Taken from my page a GOOD 2 years ago and I still feel this way. It is truly amazing what else you change besides your physical parts.
"Sparkpeople was originally for me to regain my own physical self, but I see that it is so much more than that. I have rediscovered myself, by myself, with the help of others in my life, and simply from emails received by Sparkpeople! I am happy to be moving forward in places I felt stuck and lost in. I can't wait to see what else this journey will bring!"
I am grateful for all of you and for this website and will continue to use it daily. I hope that I can be a motivator for you and inspiration to make a change. I want to help others, as others have helped me. I know there will be days that I feel weak even, and you wonderful Sparklers pick me up! Remember, don't give up. You will fall, you will fail, but you will succeed if you get up and try again. And we will be here to help you get through it! You CAN do thiS!

To find that job that I love waking up to. It is out there
To find that financial relief, whether it is a second job, or a higher paying job. (Or some rich man sweeps me off my feet...but that's daydreaming)
To keep an agreeable relationship with my ex-husband, for our own sanity and our daughters.
Tracking my food and ensuring I stay within my range.
Tracking my fitness.
Measuring my serving sizes.
Increasing my strength training.
To run a 5k as if it was nothing. Maybe even try a 10k!
Run outside when I can, otherwise I run on the treadmill.
Biking when I can, and kicking butt at it.
Using Jillian DVD videos when the treadmill doesn't sound so nice and it is so COLD or HOT outside!
Walking with my walking buddy on Thursdays. Usually about 4-5 mile walk and some girl time.
