Out on the town
First flight lesson - such a thrill!
Torn quad -- I don't recommend it.

I'm back! Life is more fulfilling than ever this year, for which I am grateful every day. The 29 lbs I lost in 2013 really boosted my morale. Realizing I could apply that same dedication elsewhere, I've been able to achieve other key goals, too. It's been a hard but positive learning process, and I'm in a much better place than I used to be. I don't get as discouraged or give up as easily; I look for ways around setbacks instead of stopping.
However, I've taken my eye off the ball a bit as far as my weight is concerned: I've regained 11 lbs since the start of the year...that is 17 lbs higher than my "best" weight of 2013. Gulp! Bad, but not the end of the world. Not only will I lose this weight, I've decided, but I'll drop another 10 lbs, too.
A painfully torn quadriceps (from playing kickball) contributed to the weight gain, but so did too much snacking, plain and simple. So, I'm going to track my food and exercise each day, and I'll start weighing myself weekly again.
Now that my quad is healed, I'm doing strengthening exercises and stretching. I want to start running again soon--I miss it! My last 5K race was in March--I hope to do one in October.
Please wish me luck!
Be consistent and persistent.
Try new activities, have more adventures!
Start 5K-to-10K training in October.
Sleep well, stress less, feel energetic.
Reach Goal Weight this year.
Running, strength training, stretching.
New activities I plan to try: stand-up paddleboarding, Zumba, ziplining...
Diabetes runs in my family, on both sides. My dad has peripheral neuropathy in both feet and legs, and can't hike anymore. I lost my mother to congestive heart failure. I never want to kick myself and say "this serious, expensive, irreversible medical condition could have been avoided"!
2013 was the successful breakthrough year I wanted...I'm setting my sights higher in 2014!
