In the past I have been very active and did not struggle with my weight or health, so was not really challenged to learn the specifics I should know in order to care for myself. Also put everyone else in my life first, and was able to keep running on close to empty, because it worked for me. Now that I have reached this age and stage in life, it is finally catching up with me. I need new skills to keep my cholesterol in check, lower my body fat %, have better energy levels, get active again, ...
In the past I have been very active and did not struggle with my weight or health, so was not really challenged to learn the specifics I should know in order to care for myself. Also put everyone else in my life first, and was able to keep running on close to empty, because it worked for me. Now that I have reached this age and stage in life, it is finally catching up with me. I need new skills to keep my cholesterol in check, lower my body fat %, have better energy levels, get active again, and to maintain a healthier overall lifestyle. My family health history includes all the heavy hitters and I am considered at very high risk for heart disease and cancer. My mother, my closest friend, passed away from colon cancer 10 years ago and my dad was diagnosed with the same cancer one month after her passing. He is now 82 and a survivor! I have much be grateful for and much to learn on this journey. My interests include nature, hiking, kayaking, walking along the local stream, being at the lake, reading, gardening, cooking, reading, active church life, dogs, and crafting (my favorite craft changes frequently....some painting, some needlework or crocheting in the past, but my current favorite is traditional rug hooking....especially with yarn....which makes it untraditional :) Hot yoga is one of my favorite exercises right now and I seem to need to begin more strength training. That, and drinking enough water, are the two most difficult things for me to manage right now. I had a total of 15 lbs to lose and was managing to gain about 5 pounds per year and not able to put a dent in getting it off ( a really stubborn 15!). Learning so much about why it was so difficult for me to move forward with weight loss and am now making slow, but very positive steps in the right direction. At the rate I am moving forward, it should take quite a bit longer than i had hoped, but what is coming off is body fat and not muscle mass. I believe this program is my answer to achieving the healthy lifestyle I need.

My Goals:
I would like to maintain healthy spark ranges for calories, protein, carbs, fats, sodium and folate. I would like to establish a fitness plan that includes running, yoga, and strength training weekly. I would like to meet and maintain a healthy bodyfat % and manage my cholesterol levels without meds.
