New year, new hopes!

Hi friend,

Glad you came to visit my page :)

I have been through many cycles of loss and gain, the same old 20-30lbs always!! This time I have a new doctor to help me, who actually sat down with me for hours to know my history and then figure out an action plan. I hope I can manage my thyroid issues better with her help.

For some reason I have become very pesimistic about this whole weight loss thing. I feel, as usual I will slog out and get few pounds ...

For some reason I have become very pesimistic about this whole weight loss thing. I feel, as usual I will slog out and get few pounds down only to again it all back again...its depressing, even more when I see people here losing weight so easily!

Got a fitbit flex for my birthday, according to that I'm pretty active (without any added workouts). I eat very healthy. I guess I haven't found the missing piece of puzzle just yet.

I appreciate any advice on staying positive. Thanks! :)

Update: 1/08/2013

A Happy New Year to all!

Its exactly one year since I joined back on Sparkpeople after creating a new id. In first nine months I lost close to 30 lbs and then in 3 months I gained about 20 lbs back.

I can't say I am happy about all the pounds I gained back but some how I feel happy that I figured out what was going on with me every winter all these years! Who would have thought of vitamin D deficiency! Come the colder months my weight shot up like a rocket without any change in my eating habits! Along with that came the alarming hair fall, muscle spasms, awful tiredness. I thought I was going to die!!

Finally after taking vit D3, I'm slowly getting better, weight is coming off slowly. Hair fall is not so much any more. I still have muscle cramps but I don't have to be afraid of laughing anymore!

Now looking back its only during winter I have gained weight! It took me a long time to connect the dots!

So that is it friends... Another new beginning..

I initially joined SparkPeople back in 2006! From there it was always ups and downs. After having our 2nd baby(who is 2 now) I'm back once again, hopefully for good!

I have a long way to go, but setting a goal of 50lbs for this year. Last month we got an elliptical so I'm back on track. Need all the motivation!

My aim is to get rid of 50% of my current body weight.

Just dropping by to say I love your clematis photo and to thank you for your comment on my insulin resistance blog!

I have learned a lot of things from one of my India friends, she grows bitter melon... I've really got to get some of those started this year in my garden! I buy those too, at the Indian market, we are so lucky to have them here in Plano, Texas!

No Amla fruits here, just the dried powder and the frozen berries! VERY bitter but they have an interesting looking seed!

I bought a small white mulberry tree off ebay, for about $15. I have read the roots are very invasive, that if you plant it in the ground here, soon you will be having a mulberry forest! So I'm keeping it in a huge pot. I am hoping to get some berries as well that are supposed to be delicious as well as healthy.

After my mulberry gets a bit larger, I will try rooting some springs, and if they take, will plant the young trees at the outskirts of the woods in the park where it will get plenty of sunlight and roots are not an issue.

I'm also growing Gynostemma. Its a pretty vine with 5 leaves that look like a fan. I've got them in two pots in my bathroom, but am planning on moving some of the cuttings I sprouted outside. We have a bad rabbit problem here, so I am very cautious of moving any non-native outside and those are usually the first ones to get eaten.

I have yet to get a fasting insulin test run. I am very curious to do that. I wish there was a way of ordering that test without going to the doctor.

I am concerned I might actually have LADA with is adult onset type 1,(lack of insulin, bc the pancreas is being destroyed) since I already have Hashimoto's, which is autoimmune thyroid disease. Once your immune system goes wonky, there's a tendency for other autoimmune problems.

In any case, get your thyroid tested, bc if you are suddenly packing on the pounds, losing hair, feeling tired, that may be another reason why!

Good to meet you, thank you for sharing your story with me!
Sharing is how we learn so much...

Thank you so much for my spark goodie. I'm still on track. I did have a little detour of a few days last week. I year ago it would have lasted a few months. Progress! emoticon
