I joined SparkPeople because a friend asked me to start a weight loss team. I joined while still pregnant with Dekar, knowing that he had an "incompatible with life" (I hate that term) diagnosis. He was born live and died on June 27, 2008. His story is at a memorial website www.BabyDekar.com.

As of the spring of 2009 I weigh 185ish, which is over ten pounds more than my pre-pregnancy weight. Since I ate a lot of ice-cream after his diagnosis it doesn't suprise me that the pounds are hanging on. The last year has been one of survival and all beyond that has been bonus. Since joining I have learned more about tracking my caloric intake, realized I do hate doing exercise as much as I thought, and know that if I want to lose weight and get in better shape I am better off just living my life while implementing changes that I know I will stick with.

The first few months I joined a lot of teams, but in time have found that less is more. I decreased my teams down to ones that I felt I could benefit from, and also be a somewhat regular contributor. I seem to go in spurts with activity. As much as I like SparkPeople I am trying not to let it take up time that could otherwise be used doing something more useful and active.
2011. This year I will lose 38 pounds. I have learned a lot the last few years. I know what I need to do and this year I will do it.

My Goals:
Aug 3, 2011--lost a solid 18 pounds thus far. My body is holding steady at 166 and I am going to keep doing what I'm doing without getting stressed by what the scale says.

2011--reach goal weight of 145. Train to be ready for a 45ish mile cycle ride by the fall.
Started at approx 184 and ended at approx 155. A solid 25-28 pounds lost!
I lost 13.75 inches! I measure neck, left arm, right leg, hips, breast, waist. I went from 179.5 down to 165.75. June 24, 2012: 164.625.

Did many spiritual fasts, using The Makers Diet as a guideline.
I logged in over 1015 miles, most of those from bicycling. My longest ride was 60 miles---15 miles more than I planned on doing!

January 2010: Eating nuts, fruits/veggies, dried beans/legumes, whole grains and one organic egg per day. Very limited amount of coffee and drinking mostly water.

My Program:
Keep doing it. Eat healthy, exercise. Make wise choices. Learn from my mistakes. Keep going even when it seems nothing is happening. Persevere.
I am making gradual lifestyle changes which I pray will result in steady progress! Biking, walking, playing with kids, jumping on trampoline.

I take my measurements weekly and chart them sporatically. I weigh myself daily, once in morning and once in evening. It helps me keep focused.

I do spiritual fasts which also strengthen my physically and emotionally. I almost always lose weight during these times.

Personal Information:
Mom to nine children. Dekar sees the face of Jesus and the others are healthy and thriving here on earth. I have been married for over 20 years (to the same man). :)

    Hi I saw your post on the Gall Bladder Banter spark team. Did you go for the op or have you found ways to cope? I am taking alternative medicines. Please share if you have found anything. Thanks.
