If someone tells a joke and I know this person well, I am stright up honest with them, if it's funny I laugh if it's not or tasteless I'm like, "dude..." If it's someone I don't know and it's not funny I usually put my hand on their shoulder and say something to effect of, "Well, at least you didn't get any of the words wrong..."
I do not tell jokes, my comedic timing doesn't work that way rather, if there's an opportunity to say something funny in response to something that just happened, I'm there and SPOT-ON about 80% of the time.
One of the funniest moments I recall having was one day myself and several colleagues were standing at the door waiting for the school buses to arrive and this older teacher who was monitoring the kindergarten kids started fussing at two of the little girls. I couldn't hear what was being said because little kids are loud (high frequency voices are deafening) but then the elder teacher said very loudly, "I told you girls to stop talking about boys!" At the exact moment everyone got silent I dropped my walkie talkie, clipboard and my hat that I was holding and had a wide-eyed open mouth expression on my face as if I just heard the naughtiest thing ever....
My colleagues were in stitches save the elder teacher who later told me that that wasn't funny (but it totally was), even a few of the little kids laughed.
If I had to say what are my favorite kind of jokes it'd be the ones that start out like this, "There's these 2 nuns and a sailor......"
