I have been on and off this site for years, I give the link to my patients who want to lose weight and get healthy (I am a nurse practitioner), but I repeatedly fall off the wagon of using these tools for my own life! My goal is to fit into my size 8/10 clothes again and not have to go shopping for bigger sizes... I also want to trim my belly. I feel uncomfortable in my own skin, a little too much of me to love!

Last year I had a double mastectomy for breast cancer and had reconstructive surgery. I would like to blame the tamoxifen I am taking for my weight gain, but the truth is every year the scale inches upward due to inactivity, a sedentary job and a sweet tooth! Snacking in the afternoons is another culprit. My story is not unlike thousands of others on this site, but it is inspiring to me to read the success stories of people who have taken the weight off and kept it off!

Part of my strategy is to incorporate more greens into my diet, no aspartame or artificial sweeteners, and add whole food vitamins. I am trying aloe life for its anti-cancer properties, and Source of Life whole food multivitamins. So far, day 2 of the vitamins and I already feel more energized and more in control of my appetite.

Another part of my strategy is of course exercise. I have always loved running but am prone to injury... currently I'm nursing shin splints from running six miles in three days, a little too much all at once! I read an article about prevention and treatment of shin splints today on the Sparkpeople website which recommended "active rest" and suggested the stationary bike or swimming. Since I don't have access to a pool I hopped on my stationary bike for 20 minutes. It felt great to get moving and not be in pain from the shin splints! I love to use the Stretches for Runners video on this website also.

Anyone out there find the vibram five finger shoes helpful for their knees? These were one investment I made which seemed to help my footfalls and protect my knees, versus mindless clodding along in padded shoes.

Anyway, that's enough about me... I appreciate any supportive comments and wish everyone good luck in their journeys!
