My new fav dessert is called Indulgence. It's a philly cream cheese that's whipped and is dark chocolate or milk chocolate. 2 Tablespoons is 110 for dark, and 120 for milk chocolate. That of course wouldn't be any more filling than eating candy, so I have two cups of strawberries that I dip in it! Under 200 calories.

I eat the Kroger CarbMaster yogurt... I especially like Carrot Cake, Cherry and the White chocolate raspberry. It is 60 cals, 9 GM Pro, 4 GM carb. Very very very good! and only 60 cents each since it's store brand.

One Hershey's Bliss dark chocolate candy is 35 calories. If I crave chocolate, I have one of those. Being dark chocolate, it's full of anti-oxidants that destroy free radicals and benefit the heart. If I feel like my heart really needs my help, I eat two of them. Delicious, and only 70 calories.

about a year and a half ago i decided that i would only have one sweet item a day...no matter how big or small. i LOVE chocolate, so usually by noon ive had my one sweet for the day. the up side of this has been that around 10am i think...what would i like my treat to be? im not in craving mode or impulse mode so i pick something that tends to be on the smaller and healthier side. then, if i go out to dinner there's no way i can get a big dessert because ive already had my one sweet earlier in the day. all my friends and family no that i only do one a day and so they dont even ask anymore. they also all seem very impressed that ive done this for so long. it really has made it easier to control impulse chocolate fiascos!

Today, I went to a tricky tray and they were serving cake. I managed to skip out, but a big part of the reason why I skipped it was because I dont really care for the type of cake that they had. And it is so much harder to resist dessert when it is something that I enjoy...like cheesecake. So I'm planning on dedicating two days of the month for something I really enjoy. I hope this works. Im just starting this journey myself so I'll see if this works. For the remainder days of the month, I will opt for healthier desserts...like yogurt or fruit. I think that knowing that I am not depriving myself of the good stuff will give me something to look forward to and hopefully prevent me from overindulging

I'm another one who ends the day with yoghurt and fresh fruit(and sometimes a quarter cup frozen berries added in)
I make a single serve of LF fruit yoghurt do 3 nights and vary the fruit I mix through it,eg a small kiwifruit with half a small banana and two of my home grown passionfruit, small ones.

Next night it will be half an apple with a slice of cantaloupe and some berries. etc
As I've never been overly fussed about cooked desserts, preferring fresh fruit any day, this is my daily treat and the BEST food ever for me,I actually keep thinking of it all day long and "tasting" it, even though I eat fruit after lunch and stewed peaches at breakfast!.

I give in to the urge for dessert - but make sure I have low calorie choices and count the calories into my daily total.

The Source Yogurt Dessert selection is amazing - only 35 calories, or jello pudding - lite at 50 calories.

If I have to have the piece of chocolate I have individual squares or 75% Cocoa and just take small pieces and let melt in my mouth - the ones I buy have 35 c so very low but very satisfying.

We have to remember that we aren`t on a diet - but forming a new healthy lifestyle. Desserts etc are not something we will be able to resist forever so have to learn to find satisfying desserts that keep us on track.

I want to give my boyfriend a massive "shout out" for planning ahead and "heading me off at the Dessert Pass"

I was on my way to the cupboard for a post dinner marshmallow (or 6... I know... my sweet tooth is THAT bad :s) and he had two bowls sitting on the cupboard with frozen blueberries and lowfat yogurt in them....

It was delicious, and I felt much better than if I had dug into those marshmallows... Best support I have had in a while :)

KIMMMIT326 - The easy bake apple pie sounds AMAZING! Would you be willing to share the recipe?

Ashley - I love the "dessert on fitness days only" plan, because I too tend to crave the bad stuff much less on fitness days! Plus, it's a great motivator, and it's not saying "I will never have dessert" (I just fail miserably whenever I try that).

I'm just getting into healthy shakes. They taste great and are very filling. It keeps me away from the pie and muffins my husband is always bringing home. So far it works.

Today the group next to me at work was having a Tex-Mex potluck, and they offered some to me. I took one small scoop of guacamole since that fit into my calories and nutrients for the day. One of my coworkers came over and put chips on my plate for the dip, but those chips went into the trash when I got back to my desk. I'll eat my guacamole with a spoon, thank you very much.

This isn't about dessert, but it's about eating out! We went to a Mexican food place last night for a fundraiser, and I ordered grilled chicken, but it came out with a thick slab of melted cheese on it. I loooove cheese, and I love it melted, but I was strong and I peeled most of it off, leaving a healthy amount of cheese left. I also only had a few bites of the rice and ate most of the veggies that came with it (just not the onions or peppers because I don't eat those). I didn't even let my mom eat that big pile of cheese, so I felt extra triumphant!

I pretty much don't ever crave sweets anymore. The only thing I still really like are chocolate-covered strawberries :) Otherwise, I've told people I don't like cake-type things anymore (even muffins make me feel sick now--too much sugar!), and I don't let people force things on me. Now, when it comes to chips or popcorn after dinner, don't get me started...(but really the key for me is to plan for it beforehand and to make sure I measure out a portion and put the rest away!)

Way to go everyone resisting the dessert temptations.

for the past month or so I have been working towards only having desserts on fitness days. I try to run 3 days a week. On run days I have found half the time I dont even want the dessert but crave it a bit more on rest days. Been having a green tea or bed time tea after dinner and this seems to help as well.

However, my mom sent us a box of US easter favorites (currently living in London UK) and it has taken all my strength to keep them locked up in the closet. Left half for co workers to devour and the other half is being rationed out between hubbie and I. It helps they are all fun size so they work well for dessert nights.

I have absolutely no interest in fat-free pudding, or anything made with Cool Whip or other chemically stuff. If I am going to eat dessert it is going to be full on butter and whipped cream and chocolate. So for me, dessert has always been a very occasional treat, and is usually one dessert shared between 4-5 people. I would rather have two or three bites of flourless chocolate cake than a whole serving of something made out of chemicals.

I do make banana "ice cream"--frozen bananas in the food processor until creamy, oh so good, and if you put a tablespoon of natural peanut butter in it, it is even better.

I also like frozen strawberries in the food processor with enough water to make a shaved-ice kind of thing. You can add a little sweetener if your berries are not sweet enough. I make a huge mess of it, and then freeze it in small tupperware containers. If you take one out and put it in the fridge a couple hours before you want to eat it, it becomes like sorbet.

this is by far my biggest weakness. i love dessert and i love to bake. There is just something about being in a warm kitchen with all the delicious aromas filling the room. I am proud to say that the more i bake the less tempted i am to eat my creations. I know that is odd, but i think it just gets boring to eat. I haven't baked in awhile and started getting back on a dessert kick again- my main nemesis happens to be Oreos. However, I find that when I HAVE to have that oh so delicious treat, a bowl of nonfat yogurt with granola on top satisfies the craving. If I really need to something sweet I'll sprinkle a bit of sugar on top since I buy the sugar free yogurt. Another good addition to yogurt is frozen berries. My favorites are black berries and raspberries.

Great topic. I have triumphed too. I used to eat anything sweet that was anywhere near me, and I'd eat it until I was sick. If I saw it, I just wanted inhale it all. I too am an ice cream freak and I'm proud to say I rarely have it or any dessert, even during the holidays. I have my planned treat for the major meals, and never think about it otherwise. My occasional treat is ice-milk at the buffet, and once in awhile a piece of candy. I could stare down a table full of sweets, and walk away without any of it.

This is a great achievement!!

I love this topic! For years I have struggled with limiting my servings of dessert, especially when at a party. But the past 2 months have been great! I still have dessert, but I don't get what I call 'greedy' for it. In other words, I don't have the urge as often to overindulge! Yay! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love ice cream...just switching to frozen yogurt helps! I have been backsliding the last 2 days, but not today! I got up off of the sugar wagon today!

I went to a cookout on Saturday, and had a hot dog, some raw vegetables and a small brownie. I especially felt good about keeping to one brownie, because before I changed my eating habits, I would have eaten at least 2-3 desserts!

It just felt good to know that I can eat even the less healthy things in moderation now...that I'm seeing some shades of grey as opposed to simply black and white, "diet" or "eating bad." It's actually quite liberating!

These are some great ideas! I've found after not having sweets for a while, I can take 'em or leave 'em. I don't keep high-cal treats at home, but do allow myself a mini-indulgence on occasion.

I read something recently that really hit me; the author said something like we must really like things like decadent desserts, because we will be wearing them for a good while to come! That gives cause for pause!

I have been eating a lot of oranges and strawberries, and I'm finding that these very sweet and juicy fruits help curb my sugar cravings. Our office candy bowl (FULL of chocolate) sits right behind my desk, and I haven't touched it in almost a month!

If I really get a craving for some dessert, I keep Soy Lil' Dreamers (soy ice cream sandwiches) in my freezer -- they satisfy the craving but are better than eating ice cream.

I am a big dessert lover but recently I passed up delicious looking cupcakes at a baby shower and then cake somewhere else. I told myself the shortening in the lovely looking icing was going straight to my waistline, wow the dessert didn't seem so appealing! I have a Dove Dark Chocolate Promise after dinner with a cup of hot dessert. That satisfies my sweet tooth.

I am a serious chocoholic but it's getting harder to enjoy chocolate since I cut out HFCS from my diet. A lot of the chocolates like Hershey's made me feel so tired and even feverish afterward, so there are fewer choices for me now. It's a good and a bad thing.

I haven't had chocolate for dessert all week so far, which is a major accomplishment! I've been eating fruit, such as homemade applesauce or dried cherries. Yesterday for my afternoon snack I had my choice of two Lara bars: cherry or peanut butter chocolate chip. I wasn't craving the chocolate so I had the cherry one. That's also a big accomplishment!

We get organic grapes and dry them in the food dehydrator (no sugar or preservatives added) to make raisins. They are so sweet they are like eating candy! These make a great dessert, but they have calories too, gotta watch that I don't eat too many.

These are some really fantastic, clever suggestions. I feel like I mention this food in EVERY message board post I write. But the Peanut Butter and Company Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter is my dessert almost every night after dinner. I use my food scale to measure exactly a tablespoon. To me, it tastes like a Peanut Butter Cup. Except it tastes REAL and not too-sweet or fake, or like chemicals.

Confession: I also eat a little dessert after lunch. I know! Twice a day dessert, SHAME ON ME!! I eat one square of dark chocolate, usually Dove or Bliss. Not the best choice in chocolate, perhaps, health-wise, but still yummy and I don't have to break it apart since it comes in prewrapped squares.

If anyone knows of a higher quality dark chocolate with a higher cocoa percentage, that comes in prewrapped squares, please share!

I have to have a dessert after dinner. But its dessert that I make. I DO NOT eat the desserts at restaurants, they have way to many calories, some even a whole days worth of calories. At home, I make healthier things. I love strawberries, so sometimes its just strawberries with a dollop of whip cream and voila, dessert, if I have some extra calories I might add a small slice of angel fruit cake with that. Another one of my favorite go to desserts to make, which I make almost every day is an easy bake french apple pie. It is so delicious and only 210 calories for the entire 8 in pie! Doesn't get any better than that, sometimes I even bake it and eat it for breakfast since it does have a good amount of protein in it as well and the apples help to keep me full.

Oh, yea and when we do go out to dinner, normally afterwards we go get frozen yogurt by my house, I looked up the flavor that I like ant its rounly 20 cal an ounce, so I normally get 2-3 oz ( i weigh before adding toppings) and I just add some fresh fruit on top. And my favorite flavor is the cheesecake flavor. Its just heavenly.

my dessert last night was a carton of dannon light & fit yogurt with 1/2 a serving of quaker oat squares. For me, the oat squares help keep me full for longer. I had the same thing this morning for breakfast and felt rather indulgent! However at about 185 calories for the whole thing, and it has fiber and whole grains, etc., it really is kind of (well, the yogurt has artificial sweetener in it) good for you.

I too am a huge fan of the sugar free pudding. When I want to really feel like it's a fancy treat i remove all aluminum from the top and microwave it for 20 sec and put on rediwhip. I really savor it and feel like I'm splurging. Also when the temps start getting warmer outside i freeze my pudding cup and treat it like a pudding pop or frozen treat!

I also love apple slices with Waldon Farms calorie free caramel on them! emoticon

I have to say that for me personally, I don't go without dessert. At home we have a dessert every night but I make it a 'better for me' dessert. One of our faves is fat free, sugar free pudding with light whipped cream & 1/2 of a Nonni's biscotti crumbled on top or I make a lot of WW diet soda cakes. And a lot of times we take the kids for a ride & get a McDonald's small low fat vanilla icecream cone (the only thing I like from McD's). I am losing weight, still having my sweets & I can have my cake & eat it too:)

Minor triumph -- I was working late on homework last night. I had had all my food for the day and I was pretty happy. My sis started snacking on some pretzels in front of me. I had a couple, and instead of my usual cleaning up the bag and maybe a couple snacks after I "cheated", took the time to enjoy the few I had.

I have a strong sweet tooth and love chocolate. Lately, my Go-To dessert is a 45 calorie fudgecicle. Because it takes a while to eat, it helps me savor the chocolate and quells my sweet tooth. I have had one almost every night for the last two weeks. Really helps my calorie count.

Having worked in several restaurants I know that, unless it's a $$$$ restaurant, the desserts are usually brought in from outside sources or come in frozen. We'd add whipped cream, dust it with cocoa powder (et al), garnish it and send it out--sometimes after microwaving it. emoticon
Even the fancier, very expensive restaurants do this. That knowledge helps me just enjoy looking! emoticon

We went to a big family dinner at a nice restaurant last night and at the end of the dinner the waiter put out some very yummy looking desserts on our table. They were right in front of me and I wanted to eat one or all of them so much but I resisted. GO ME!! I'm so proud of myself. Does anyone else want to share any of her or his own triumphs over food or anything else?
