What about a 2 step approach:
1. Remove as many of the "temptations" from your environment as possible. Get rid of the large bag of chips, tub of icecream, etc.
2. Plan when you will have a "temptation". For example:
---on Wednesday I will go with my kids and get a singe dip ice cream cone
---on Friday I will eat out with my friends and get a meal that is on the 500 calorie or less section
---On Tuesday I will get a small bag of chips from the vending machine to eat with my lunch.
