Don't blame a lack of weight loss on exercise alone. Although I would not have lost as much weight this year if I couldn't exercise, my son has mobility issues. As a result of brain tumour surgery 2 years ago, he can't walk without a cane and even then, only for 15 minutes tops. He has neuropathic pain in his left arm and left leg that is managed, but not entirely controlled with meds. He has focal seizures which leave him exhausted and sap his strength. His meds have a side effect to gain weight. With all of that, he lost 50 pounds this year. No surgery, no pills or fad diets. He strictly controlled his intake and did what he could. Sometimes his exercise was playing with his kids. Sometimes it was sitting in front of a peddle bike and using his arms on the peddle.
The point is this. Do what you can. You will loose weight when you set your mind to it.

An older friend of mine has horrible leg and foot swelling and she got a physical therapist and she got her this thing its the pedals of a bike that she can do sitting down. She also using canned veggies and sits in her chair and using them like weights. And that has done wonders for her, I know she has lost some weight not sure how much though. Definitely ask your doctor what exercises they'd recommend first. Because they know you better then we do, they are in a better position to make suggestions.
Now, one thing you could do is ask them about chair aerobics. If you find it difficult to stand for long periods of time because of the swelling in your legs, sit in a chair and do upper body exercises. You could use hand weights or resistance bands to do upper body strength exercises. Coach Nicole does have a 10-15 minute chair workout posted in the fitness section. There are also chair workouts posted on YOUTUBE. Watch them and decide which ones you may be able to do.
Ask your doctor about swimming or water aerobics. Being in the water can help take stress off your legs and joints.
One thing you might do, is read this great Daily Spark Blog by member INDYGIRL. At one time, she weighed over 460+ pounds. She too had limited mobility, but was still able to get in some regular exercise. This may give you some ideas. But once again, check with your doctor to make sure it's okay.
You CAN lose weight without exercise. I once lost nearly 20lb just by eating a lower (1400cal) diet. So start eating right now. See your doctor about the exercises you can do. I would suggest something water based, like swimming, but get your doctors advice. Exercise is fantastic for your physical and mental health, so I think it is a great addition to your weight loss program!
How about walking ? If you can't walk outdoors walk in the house for say 15 minutes to sstart and add a few minutes each day. Watch your sodium intake ...that will cause swelling.

First, head to the doctor and get cleared for exercise! Given your medical issues, it's vitally important that you have medical guidance about what you can, and can't do. Fitness is important for life, but it's not necessarily required to lose weight. The first thing I recommend to most people starting out is just to get moving... anything! Walking, riding a bike, whatever floats your boat. However, with your swelling, you may be contraindicated for those things.

I haven't been exercising, mostly because I'm lazy I guess. However, I'm not going to lose weight without adding exercise. So my question, I have swelling of the feet and legs, but according to my doctor no heart disease. Any ideas on good exercises to start with?
