My wake up call was when I calculated my BMI and it said I was OBESE stage 2...ahhh. I started eating better and running in the morning the next morning!

All a matter of perspective, I guess -- I was actually excited when I hit size 16, because there are a lot more clothing options (and even more if you can get below that). It's a lot better for plus size today (thanks to the internet) than it was back in the dark ages -- but having to buy a "special size" is never fun.
My real "wake up" moment had more to do with my lack of physical fitness (had to make an excuse to go to the drug store accross the street after a fire drill because I coudn't climb the stairs to the 4th floor). But even after I started trying to lose weight (and had lost about 5 pounds already, I had the discouraging discovery that my size 20W suit (which if you've been plus-size, you know is larger than 20 misses) was WAY too tight, and that I was back to my "highest ever" size again -- 22W. (Amazing how you can fool yourself with stretchy clothes - one of my maintenance "tricks" is to wear or at least try on a fitted, non-stretchy item at least once a week. If it feels tight, it's time to get back on track!)
Almost discouraging enough to make me give up -- but I realized that if I gave up, there was a good chance that the numbers would just keep getting bigger. You've caught yourself a little sooner than I managed to -- good for you for recognizing it and taking charge of your health.
We do all have that moment. Mine was gaining more and more weight and when i got to 216 I couldnt believe and knew i had to change things!!! That is the first step!!

"wear body shapers which I thought were reserved for old people" No, actually a lot of twenty-somethings who are still battling baby weight wear body shapers. Teen girls in tight, fitted dresses wear body shapers. They are not age-specific - they are for anyone who wants the really smooth look in their clothes. My goal was to get rid of them - and with exercise, eating right, and SparkPeople - I don't need them anymore. I LOVE stretchy leggings, though.

My wake up call to lose the weight was when I hit a size 16 and literally do not recognize me any more. I have aches and pains, can't move like I used to, wear body shapers which I thought were reserved for old people. It's not good. This is for real. Must change.
