You should be able to walk 30-60 minutes at a brisk pace, a few times a week, and be doing that for several months before starting to run.

I second the suggestion to go with either a Sparkpeople training program or the Couch to 5K program. I went from struggling to run 60 seconds less than a year ago to training for a half-marathon now. I also agree that you should walk before you try running and you need good shoes!

Sparkpeople has great 5K training plans. Also Runners World has some great plans online also.

How long are you walking? Before you can run, you must be a regular walker. :) I used SP's walking 5k training program to walk my first 5k and now I'm training to run one. It's been a hard battle, but I'm getting there.

Big tip: SHOES! GEt properly fitted for running shoes. All shoes are not created alike!

SparkPeople has some great 5k training programs that I'd recommend checking out:

I am not a runner at all. I want to start. My 8 yr old daughter ran a 5k this weekend and I want to start running with her. I can barely run 10 steps so I need to start slow and small. Help. Any tips or websites.. Thanks
