I had lap band in 2010. My starting weight was 278, and I'm now 182. I've got 20 to go.
People often tell me I took the easy way out. Let me tell you, IT IS NOT easy.
The first 40 pounds probably came off because of surgery, but the rest was me (with God's help). These last 20 pounds are killer to take off.
I know quite a few people who have had the surgery only to put the weight back on. It is not for everyone. It is only a tool to help you lose weight, it is not a "cure all".
My band is at 8 cc, so I'm pretty full. I can consume about 1200 calories. I don't eat most meat, so I stick with tofu and fish. I am a pretty raw foods person.
I instruct Zumba classes several times a week, plus I jog and lift weights, so I'm pretty active. I just joined Sparkpeople, and so far I'm really liking it. Think I might even start a blog.
Now if I can only do something about all this extra skin.

I had lap band 2010, weighed 225 now weigh 162. Hardest part is seeing the last weight come off. I put off exercising yet force myself into doing my recumbent bike for 30 minutes at least 2x a week. I do have still bad eating habits, sometimes go to buffets on the weekend. My husband abuses the lapband eats mexician food till he is stuffed, he also had lap band lost 175 pounds in the 1st year period. I went to a weight clinic I cannot eat 1200 calories a day. My fill is tight now. I lose and then gain and lose 3 pounds up and down. I find my family on husbands side eat too much are extremely fat and it makes me sick. I was there too but wanted to change. I put the fork down and enjoy the taste of food, small amounts. Finally my waist is 36", yet bust got smaller oh well. Good luck I find 1,000 calories fit my stomach size. emoticon

Hi, I had Lap Band Surgery on 12/17, I once again started a Weight Loss Journey in June of 2012 which lead me to choose Lap Band surgery. From June though December I lost 17 lbs, Lost 12 more pounds on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet and have lost an additional 25 in the past weeks since surgery. Now I am 1 year & 3 months post surgery and have lost 103 lbs. I have not lost much in the last 6 months but with nicer weather I vow to kick it into high gear so look out world her comes one skinny bitch (i love it). emoticon .

Think of it in percentages. It's generally not safe to lose much more than 1% of your body weight per week, maybe 1.5% if you're quite obese and under a doctor's care. You'd have to weigh 500 pounds to lose 5 pounds a week safely. If you're somewhere north of 200 but under 300, your loss since the surgery is already a bit on the fast side. Losing faster would put you at risk of health problems, and I'm betting avoiding health problems is why you went through the surgery to begin with!

Be patient; you'll still be at or near your goal within a year even if you lose "slowly," and you'll be much more likely to stick with the diet and exercise if you don't make it too hard.

Also, realize that the faster you lose the weight, the more likely you are going to have excess skin. I know that weightloss is typically fast with weight loss surgery anyway... Just make sure you are getting all of your protein and nutrients. A few of my family members had the gastric bypass or the lap band surgery, and if they didn't have the right amount of protein they lost their hair. Good luck to you, and don't get discouraged.

Keeping up a 5 pound per week pace of weight loss is not realistic.

You'd be better off making a more realistic goal (2 pounds/week) and then feeling proud to meet and maybe exceed it, than to make an unrealistic goal and then feeling disappointed at "failing" to come close.

You should be aiming to lose two pounds each week. When you're losing less than that it may be time to step up the weight loss. In the meantime be patient and keep on keeping on. That's amazing progress (I'm a little jealous). Good luck on the rest of your journey!

Following the program set forth by your medical team is critical.

Make sure you are getting your protein and fluids!
Exercise

I think you are doing wonderful!

You have lost 56 pounds in less than two months. ;) You can't step up the weight loss! The less you weigh, the less you will be able to lose at a time as you go on. :)

Remember that this isn't the biggest loser; the fact is, the slower you lose, the more likely you are to KEEP it off!

I had lap band weight loss surgery on 12/17/12. Started my journey to weight loss in June of 2012. I lost 17 pounds up thru December 3, 2012 and went on 2 week pre-op liquid diet and lost another 12. Since the day of WLS I have lost an additional 26 pounds. Total of 56 pounds lost. I am watching my calories between 1200-1300 a day and have been excerising 3 times a week, I want to step up the weight loss, any suggestions?
