WELCOME TO SPARK!!! Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.
1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.
2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.
The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Coming to spark people is the best step you could have made. I had open heart surgery when I was 17 (Pericarditis). I actually coded and had to be put on dialysis for a week bc when your heart stops everything shuts down including kidneys. They told me I wouldn't make it to see 30 & I showed them. I too suffered from ulcers in my esophagus, almost bled out w/ my 1st pregnancy from that. Fast forward to date down 56lbs, stopped the GERD & it wasn't easy. I fell off & on many many times, it's how you come back. If you can commit to change even when you fall off you get right back on. Anytime you need an accountability partner I have a support page on Facebook (link below) if you ever need some daily inspiration, recipes or if you'd like to add some input on what helps you. Remember there is so much support here, your never alone.
Hello and welcome to the Sp family glad that you've joined this awesome site with us....you've made an excellent choice to get healthy...don't let the site overwhelm you there is a lot to learn but just take your time with it....If walking is all you can do right now then just do that until you can do more of it and once you can increase it then do so...and you'll find yourself getting faster and stronger and going longer and further in the end.... good luck to you on meeting your goals

I'm new here (and just a bit overwhelmed at all the stuff on this site!) I need to lose weight in order to stop my recent health issues. I'm 53 years old and although I think I'm pretty healthy, I take medication for cholesterol, high blood pressure, GERD, allergies, and asthma. I feel like walking is about the most strenuous activity I can do until I've dropped some of this weight - I get red-faced, out of breath, wheezy, and weak if I over-exert. (and I hate this!)
I love researching food and like to try new recipes. I think I could be almost vegetarian and I want to have a "clean" diet - eliminating sugars, processed carbs, and empty calories. My doctor suggested using the diabetic diet even though I'm not diabetic - my fasting sugar is 101 so it appears that diabetes is next if I don't change my lifestyle. I
Please visit my SparkPage - and I'd love to hear from anyone with tips on the diabetic diet, using this website, and how to gradually build strength! I'd also love some advice about incorporating my diet into "eating out". I'd love to have a buddy that is on this same journey!
