I was jogging 3-4 times a week then at a weak moment I had a cigarette. I started smoking again. Now I am putting on weight and I am afraid to go out jogging for fear that I won't be able to breath. I WILL NOT SMOKE TODAY. I want to be healthy and start jogging again. I want to feel better. Today is my day!!!

I tend to think of it as not so much 'giving up' smoking, which has negative connotations, but 'remaining smoke-free' which somehow sounds so much more positive.
What you say is what you get!

Good luck to you!
I just made the decision today to quit as well. I bought an E-cig and hope to start it tomorrow to help me cut back and eventually quit.

CONGRATS! Be proud~that is a difficult demon to beat. My last cigg was January 18th, I so know what you have gone through. In spite of watching--not really dieting as I didn't want to take on too much at once--I gained 20 lbs. Started *really* changing eating habits June 1st and adding exercise. Seeing some results--just fit into jeans that I couldn't button on 6/1. Keep plugging along. I hear our metabolisms will kick back in soon. In the mean time all we can do is make healthy choices!

just think, exercise will get easier as your lungs get healthier! Maybe you can chew sugar free gum instead of eating to conquer the need for something to put in your mouth or drink unsweet tea or tea with stevia as a ritual vs. eating extra?

Good afternoon group. I think making the decision to quit smoking and sticking to it is harder than any other medical obstacle I have had to deal with. I made up my mind that tomorrow is going to be day 1 of being smoke free. Those who have started this journey, I am told to find a substitute for the smokes; what are some idea you used? I currently have MS, Spinal Stenosis, herniated dics and healing from a fractured ankle. Smoking has to go!

Congratulations!! You have made a decision to improve your health. Try not to worry so much about weight gain right now. Right now the most important thing to do is to focus on not smoking a cigarette. Try to workout when you can but don't get depressed if you put on a few pounds. I quit a year ago and yes I gained some weight, but I am much more healthier now. I have ten more pounds to lose and I am ok with that. You are going to be so happy with yourself now that you gave up those nasty cancer sticks!! Good for you!!
