Laid out all the scrap music blocks last night. Will cut some from new fabric to add and start on the music quilt Saturday

I get a pattern from the 'quilt block of the day' and think I'll start doing those scrap blocks myself. Good idea! Keep Sparkin'!!

I went to a Birthday party for a good friend on Monday night. All of her friends had made a 12 inch block with red, white and block fabrics (there were 20 blocks total on the front and an extra two blocks sewn on the back.) Her sister and a friend gathered all the blocks and put them in a Friendship quilt for her. It was beautiful. What a great feeling to know that she had so many awesome friends to do something like that for her.

Found a bunch of 12 and nine inch squares that I had cut up from leftovers. Think I will work on a quilt top for my son's choir teacher for the end of the year.

I got up this morning and started quilting on the piece again. Just won't give it up. Sister will use it for a bedspread and doesn't care...all she cares about is that our mother hand pieced it and I hand quilted it. We love the way the back is looking...and I'm trying hard to repair the front as I go. Puffy spots here and there...but Mom was probably in her 70's when she did this. Just passed the time using up old material. Love it!
Snowing .....supposed to turn to rain. What a mess...but pretty right now. Have a great day all!!!

AUGH!!! Just found out that the quilt I've been working on for over a week is mislaid. The backing does not fit the top...will not tear it out, but what a chore it will be to complete!!! Like I said.....AUGH!!!!

Got up in time to get a little needling done. Getting kind of anxious to get started on the next quilt.

Lap quilts and baby or miniature patch designs are great to start out on. Be blessed as you learn.
The quilt I'm working on is turning out to have a LOT of flaws in it. Poorly sewn seams, unraveling edges, puffy seam matches, skewed patches...and on it goes...but I just keep sewing and repairing as I go. I told sister that I might need to put patches on it before I'm finished! Now THAT would be a country looking quilt....but she'll use it as a bedspread since it was our mother's. Fun. Gotta thread my needles for the next session.
Keep Sparkin'!!!

I have found a friend who quilts and she is going to teach me. I am going to start out on lap quilts. I just have to wait until my carpal tunnel surgery has healed.

Wanras...I just don't have the patience to embroider ...but I love the outcome!!! TCMakeup...I have always wanted a quilting pal....and like you, I just don't want my stitches to be different.
I'm 1/3 through on this piece I'm working on. It will probably take another 2 weeks with my time limitations. I give myself 6 weeks to hand quilt a full sized quilt...so the rest of the year will be full of stitches!! Have a great day all....keep the needles threaded!!

TCMakeup - What pattern did you pick for your son's quilt? I always have trouble with guy quilts. I lean towards feminine colors and patterns. What I have done in the past is embroider blocks and put it together. Okay, but not my best creations.

I work with a friend of mine and we sit in my living room and watch movies and quilt. I will probably never let anyone but me work on my quilts because I want the stitches to all look the same.

Had a great time this weekend. Worked on Mountains on Saturday, then got on the internet and looked up different ways to put them together. Plan to do a few more then lay them out to see what pattern I am going to do.

I would love to do a cathedral window someday.. Bonesteel used to publish books on lap quilting that were well written. I see so many SP rally invites on the site at different places around the country...but I would love to have a quilters rally...We could make a wall hanging for the headquarters...or each quilter design and finishe a 12"x12" block to bring and incorporate into a quilt that could be raffled off for a charity. My town has a lot of homemaker clubs...but no crafter's clubs.
Keep the needles threaded!

What a wonderful thing those people really loved your Mom and gave what they could to show it. I don't know how to quilt only doing the little squares by hand and putting them together. I need to find a quilt shop and learn. You have inspired me.

I have inherited dozens of Appalachian quilt tops from my mother who traveled all over Kentucky and Indiana as an evangelist, people would give her the tops as a love offering. She stored all of them and after she died, sister and I found them and I started pulling them out to finish. Some are horribly made and others are just precious...but all of them have connection to a life and a people we will never see again. I have always wanted to do the fancy quilts I see at quilt shows, but have too many of these to finish. Sometimes I'll start a new one...but rarely get it finished...and the stitches go on.

Currently working on a baby quilt and a wallhanging. We have a wonderful quilting guild in Durango where I am learning a lot and 3 quilt shops even though we are a small tourist town. I have too many things going and need to finish the above 2 before purchasing more fabric!!!

I love to quilt but haven't done any in a while. Somehow my sewing room turned into the catch all room and I have to put it back to rights. I have an Irish Chain about half done that's stuck in limbo in there someplace.

For the mem'ry quilt...try the chamber of commerce or library in your town...they should have a list of groups in your area...or start one of your own. I use you-tube a lot. You can also browse the organized spark teams..I lead a quilting team and the members often share ideas. I'm working on the quilt tob pretty steady...3 rings done so far...(hoops that is). Stitch at a time. Still wanting to make something for the ladies retreat I'm speaking at. Need about 75-100 items related to sewing. We'll see. Keep the needles threaded!!!

I am hoping to find an organization to help me make memory quilts from my daughters clothing. She passed away June 22, 2010 at age 44 and I am now emotionally ready to do this. Can anyone suggest a place I could contact.

I love that all of you like to quilt as much as I do. I have just finished my first week of sparkpeople. This is about the 5th time I have started up. This time I hope to follow through.

I won't have time to quilt again until Feb. 16th. My friend and I pick 1 Saturday every month and get together.

I have a senior this year that is in everything and it seems we are always at a function for him. I will miss all this busyness when he leaves for college.

Never thought I would get on a fitness site and find people talking about quilting ! emoticon Love it !! Would rather be quilting than exercising but need to stay focused and split my time. Finished a quilt this month that I hope to put in the State Fair in August. Have always want to, but have never had anything that was good enough in my opinion. Excited. Also excited to have lost 6 pounds this month. January 2013 is starting out to be a good year.

You Go Girl....lol I've always wanted to say that. Do you find that when you are sewing, your mind is so focused that time flies by; and before you know it it's time for a snack, or workout? I love to sew, and remember how fulfilling it is.... You have reminded me how much fun it can be, so thank you for your post as I am always looking for something to fill my spare time, other than watching tv and snacking.

The fishing quilt sounds great, I'm sure your Brother will love it, even more since it came from your hands! Look forward to a picture of your creation. emoticon

I went to the quilt show in Houston in Nov. and bought material with fish on it and I am currently working on a fish quilt for my brother for Christmas. I started quilting about 3 years ago and have absolutely fallen in love with it.

Yes..in fact I am in the throws of making 5 baby quilts. I am almost finished with the top of #1...today that will be accomplished.
I am going to take them in and have them all quilted at the quilt shop..as they are grand baby quilts and I found they hold up very well with the machine quilting..
What do you enjoy doing with your quilting projects..! Sharlene
