Okay just had some of my pork. The soda is a waste. It did not add any flavor, only sweetness so why can't you add a much better source of sweetness. I made my bbq sauce as usual so it taste the same since I knew the soda was sweet I did not add so much brown sugar to the sauce. This recipe is crazy! I would rather use the brown sugar.

I am such a hypocrite lol. I saw I had some pulled pork in freezer so I was going to cook it and make it into chile verde for tacos, but instead I looked over and saw some rootbeer that is left over from when guests were here, it is regular though. I decided why not try it, I was just going to toss the rootbeer out anyhow. I also made a homemade low cal bbq sauce for it. I cannot let hubby know what it is until he eats it, because him and I was saying this did not sound too good. Time will tell.

GVENEY- Don't listen to your friends on that one, many must believe that because almost every heavy person I see drinks diet soda if they are soda drinkers, if it was true then why do I see so many heavy people drinking diet soda but getting larger and larger. I know the answer, because they are false programming their mind to think since I drink diet soda it is okay to t have this and this because I do not drink my calories. Another reason is those fake sugars trigger off hunger they are bad, bad bad! If you want soda have it as a treat every so often and drink the regular.

I've always been told that diet sodas are bad for you and I have friends that always tell me that after you eat a meal drink a diet soda and it will help you lose weight.

Luckily I have never really had a taste for the soda. So If I do want some, it doesn't bother me, it is that rare. and I never touch the diet, with all the ickies in their. mostly it doesn't make me feel as if I am missing out on anything as I do prefer to just eat/drink, organic, fresh, non chemical food/ drink most of the time. HOWEVER there is a chocolate coca cola cake that every time I see it has me wanting to try it.
Hubz is a mountain dew fanatic, swills down tons and I bet he would love that apple dumpling recipe made for him. TOO BAD mwahaaaahaa :P

I have a recipe for apple dumplings that is made with a can of Mountain Dew. They are absolutely delicious, and you would never tell they were baked with soda pop! I've given the recipe out to many friends, and not one of them will try it. Their loss.

I've never tried the rootbeer pork, but I would be willing.

I've made this with regular root beer (not diet). After cooking for 6 or 7 hours, the root beer is drained anyway, along with all other liquid in the crock pot. My family also loved it and you'd never guess root beer was used. I like the idea to use a low sodium/sugar BBQ sauce and will definitely do that next time. Thank you!!!

Doesn't the artificial sweetner give the pork an aftertaste? I think I would be tempted to use just regular rootbeer. Yes it has sugar in it but when you think about how many people the recipe will serve, it is not so much per person.

I made the pulled pork with the ginger ale. That one pork roast feed about 30 people.

never tried it with the diet a&w ( never have been much of a soda person) but I found a recipe a while back that was " Pulled Pork and Peaches" in the crockpot, it had a can of ginger ale( not sure if recipe called for whole can, i never used the whole can) canned or frozen peaches, stewed tomatoes, garlic, pork.. it was very yummy, pretty sure I saw a similiar recipe around here :)

*edited to add ginger ale. somehow it had a can just wasn't clear enough :P

EWW this sounds gross and diet soda is bad, bad bad! I will not try this, sorry I don't mean to be insulting but there has to be a better way to same flavor without the soda. YUCK!
