The psoas (AKA Illiopsoas) make up part of the hip flexor group. There are some people who consider it a core muscle, but remember, no muscle works in complete isolation of another.

are psoas and hip flexors the same thing? or are they slightly different muscles in the same area?

Hi Brenna,

Below is a link to a dailySpark blog I wrote last year that includes links to some really great stretches to help strength your psoas (AKA hip flexors). I hope this helps!

I have weak psoas muscles and overly tight hips from belly dancing a lot.

does anyone have good ideas of exercises to do to balance this all out?
