I made it through the Thanksgiving holiday with a two pound weight loss this week! I enjoyed one plate of my favorite traditional Thanksgiving foods--small portions and no seconds--and even had a piece of black walnut pie and ice cream. I didn't even work out this week, but did do things around the house that must have burned some calories--washing walls, ripping up carpet, and sanding a floor with a small electric sander. I'm now one pound away from my initial goal of losing five pounds by December 31. Thanksgiving was my first test of having willpower not to overdo it, and I think I passed!

I've always kept myself within a healthy weight range, but after my husband's death last year, the needle on the scale has been slowly creeping up. I normally weigh myself every day, but after a few weeks of traveling, birthday parties, a baby shower, and general over-indulgence, I decided to get a handle on things before they got out of control. After putting exercise on the back burner for more than a year, I started working out again this week and diligently entered my information on the nutrition and fitness trackers. My first goal is to lose five pounds by December 31, and when I weighed in today, I had already lost two! Doing this with the holidays coming up will be tough, but I'm determined to enjoy my favorite foods within reason. I know I can do this and I'm looking forward to getting stronger and feeling better!
