Boilham... thank you for the advice. I don't run every day. I typically will every other day with walking inbetween.

My best tip is to not be over zealous. So easy to overdue running and get an injury that will put a stop to your running while you heal. Take it slow and do not run every day, leave time for rest. I wish someone had told me this when I first started.

good information here, thanks - I currently have been doing 5km runs and a friend of mine often does 10km runs.. I have avoided running with him because I haven't run that far before.

I didn't follow a plan to get from 5-10K. I kept my 2 midweek runs at 2-3 miles, and then extended the 3rd weekend run by 1K each week.

I am nearly done with the 5k training guide provided by sparkpeople (I lack roughly a week and a half). I was wondering if any folks know a free user friendly guide to aid in my progression from a 5k to a 10k? Also, any tips from experienced runners would be excellent... I am still quite a newbie. emoticon
