I set short term goals . . . a certain amount of weight lost, . . by a certain date . . then I have a treat. At Christmas my sweetheart is going to make me a gluten free apple pie. There will be lots of family so portion control won't even be an issue.
Other than that, I do work certain 'treat snacks' into my daily routine. I found a Chapman's ice cream that is only 120 calories for 1/2 cup - or a Chapman's frozen yogurt with the same calorie count. A lite Hot Chocolate or sugar free toffee.
My problem comes if I try to have too many of those treats in one day, or every day. If that happens too much, the scale goes the wrong way . . go figure
