The previous poster has given you some great advice. I would also recommend talking to your doctor, just to make sure they are okay with whatever exercise you want to try. Lower impact activities such as walking, swimming and biking are all easy on your joints. Here's some info from our Osteoarthritis Condition Center that I'd also suggest reading:

Osteoarthritis is sometime hard to live with. . . I live with it too. First I would suggest you talk to your doctor about what exercises he/she would recommend. I personally enjoy riding my bike. Even though I have arthritis in both knees I can still ride my bike. You might consider swimming too.

I am 45 yr old and have osteoarthritis in my left hip (moderate damage) & lower back ( recent discovery)..I recently noticed pain in my left knee too (because of the way I must be walking or something) walking is very painful so running, dancing or jumping is a total torture. I also started on HRT last year...so my dress size is on the increase and have no idea what kind exercise is appropriate for me... I would be so happy if anyone can help me in finding some exercise techniques to burn some calories....
