Hello sounds like the other people how really giving you some great tips also eating properly making sure your drinking enough. When I find myself lacking that umf (or motivation) I look at myself in the mirror & say do you want to live another day? Do you want to loose weight & be healthier? You are beautiful & strong Wendy now get your butt in gear & stop being your enabler! It has worked so far because i'm just right at the 80 pound lost mark since November of last year. We all do it differently. We are all wound up differently. So you will do it & take it as you please but please remember one thing you are beautiful & worth ever ounce of sweat & every ounce you loose! It's all about you & you will feel so much better & so much achievement when you do! -Wendy

UPDATE: I stepped on the scale this morning and 3 pound loss..... thank you all for your input. I did/do understand that it did not come on overnight so it will not come off overnight.... but now the scales have been kind. I am more motivated than ever. I know that I could gain as I gain muscle, but this loss was a real motivator.

It took me nearly 2 months for the scale to move after I started cutting calories and exercising. I would get extremely frustrated but I never quit and I'm glad I didn't because even though the scale didn't budge I started seeing a difference in my body from the exercise. Your body it just rearranging itself right now..give it time to understand that these changes are good for it and it will eventually start letting go of the weight. Also, make sure to get at least 8 glasses of water a day..I never realized how important getting all your water really was before, and it really does help you lose weight, good luck and don't give up!

How do your clothes fit? I too have not lost any numbers but I can fit into pants I have not worn in a year and the pockets don't stick out at the sides. I also can ALMOST button my button down shirt without it pulling across my chest and my legs don't rub together at the top when I walk. AND YET the scale says nada! So the heck with the stupid scale!

One week is not enough time to see changes, as others have said. Also, if you are eating at a deficeit, gaining muscle at a rate fast enough to actually gain weight is pretty much not a realistic possibility. Most people have to eat above maintenance to see a real gain in muscle mass. It's possible at a deficeiet, but it will be slow, definitely not something that will happen in a week.

It is very discouraging when the scale is not moving. It is hard to not feel like you are beaten up when it does not move. We all know it takes time and not to worry so much about it but it is hard to put that into action.

The others are correct. The weight doesn't magically start coming off the minute we decide we need to lose. While a safe weekly weight loss would be 1-2 pounds per week, there may be weeks you don't lose. There may even be weeks you gain. And that doesn't mean you're doing something wrong. This isn't the Biggest Loser. Those types of weekly weight losses are just not typical.

It's true. it really could take 6-8 WEEKS of healthy eating and regular exercise before a person sees a change in the scale. And that's perfectly normal. So, don't assume something is wrong because the weight isn't coming off as fast as you'd like it. weight loss really is a slow steady process that takes time.

Also, you don't want to eat too little in hopes of speeding up your weight loss. Eating too little can actually hinder a person's weight loss, not help it. I know this is going to sound strange, but a person has to eat in order to lose. The QUALITY of the food you eat has a huge impact. So, do make sure you're eating healthy foods that nourish your body.

Be patient with yourself and your body. You didn't gain the weight overnight, it's not coming off overnight. One thing to do is look for other signs of success you might have ignored because you're fixating on the scale. Are your clothes fitting better ? Have you lost inches ? If you've lost inches, that IS a success ! Can you do more push ups today than you could a month ago ? If so, increasing your strength is a success. Can you walk or run a mile faster today than you could a month ago ? If so, that too is a success. Can you carry more bags of groceries up the stairs without getting winded ? If so, a success.

The scale is only one way to measure a person's success and it isn't always the more reliable. If you have more endurance, if you have more energy, if you're sleeping better, etc... those are all subtle signs that you ARE making a difference. The scale will move eventually, but you need to be patient.

give yourself at least 8 weeks before wondering if you're doing anything wrong.

I just am so frustrated. I just started back exercising and changed my eating habits.. reduced calories, fat and drinking only water. I started back last Monday officially and I have not lost a single oz.... Is this normal could I already be gaining muscle? Somebody in the know please help.
