HI,
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GO TO BED BUT WAS GETTING MY SPARKPOINTS IN AND SAW YOUR MESSAGE. I, TOO, WENT TO A GASTRIC BYPASS MEETING AFTER A HOSPITAL STAY AND WAS SO NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF!! I JUST DID NOT THINK I COULD DO ANYMORE HOSPITAL TIME, AND DO ALL THAT WAS REQUIRED...TESTS, ETC. SO, I PUT IT OFF TO TRY MYSELF. OVER 2 1/2 YERAS I MANAGED TO LOSE 62 POUNDS. THIS WAS AN ON OFF APPROACH AND I FINALLY FELT I NEEDED TO BE MORE ACCOUNTABLE AND NOT GO UP AND DOWN AND ON AND OFF...THAT IS WHEN I FOUND SPARKPEOPLE. I DID IT TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE BUT WHAT I FOUND WAS MY ANSWER. IT IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE...NOT A DIET. YOU DON'T GO ON AND OFF. YOU MAKE SMALl CHANGES AND WORK ON MAKING MORE. YOU DRINK WATER, INCREASE YOUR FRUITS AND VEGGIES. YOU EAT LEAN MEAT, FISH AND MAKE FOOD FROM THE COOK BOOK. YOU CAN HAVE ALL KINDS OF THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CRAVINGS. AND YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT, BUT YOU WILL ACTUALLY CRAVE VEGGIES, FRUIT AND THINGS HEALTHY AS YOUR LIFESTYLE CHANGES. I HAVE LOST ALMOST 38 POUNDS WITH SPARKPEOPLE...ADD THAT UP AND YOU HAVE YOUR 100 POUNDS!! IT CAN BE DONE! I AM NOT YET GREAT AT EXERCISE, AS I HAVE TWO KNEES THAT NEED REPLACED, BUT MY GOAL IS TO ADD CHAIR EXERCISE REGULARLY AND INCREASE MY ACTIVITY. I KNOW THIS SEEMS SO HARD TO YOU. BUT IT IS DO-ABLE! GET INVOLVED IN SPARKPEOPLE. USE THE TRACKER, READ THE ARTICLES, BLOGS, INFORMATION. JOIN A TEAM AND EARN POINTS. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE IT A PART OF YOUR DAY AND STAY WITH IT. WRITE BLOGS, READ BLOGS AND LOOK AT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE IT ALREADY (THERE ARE MANY) AND THOSE STILL WORKING ON IT, LIKE MYSELF, WHO HAVE EVEN MORE THAN YOU TO LOSE.

Hi MYMARCEI. I just saw your post and see you have already received some valuable advice. That's wonderful! Just wanted to leave one little trick that helps me keep moving forward in my journey to better health. Instead of trying hard to keep from eating sweets (which I have always loved), I substitute a healthy And yummy choice. i.e. Deep Chocolate VitaMuffinTops ( only 100 calories, full of vitamins, super duper delish and lots of other favors...available at grocery stores in health frozen section/Walmart/Target), or sugar-free fat-free pudding made with nonfat milk and add raspberries or peaches etc. You can even top your dessert with a couple of spritzes of fat free ReddiWip in the can by the whipping creams/milk at grocery stores. After you have eliminated sugar from your diet for just a few days the cravings will vanish...really. They only resume when you add them back in. Make smart substitutionary choices and that won't be as likely to happen. I celebrated my DIL's Bday out last night...made great and yummy dinner choices, then ate my Deep Chocolate VitaMuffinTop in place of a high calorie dessert. Everybody thought it was cool cuz I did what was healthy for me without depriving myself. Hope this tip will be useful for you.

Hello I hope by responding to your message you will feel better. I must agree with the ladies who have all ready shared with you that deprivation of anything is never good. Treating yourself is possible Just find small treats and be happy with the treat. Live today by finding joy that you are alive and look for something beautiful in your sight.

I started out at 322 lbs and still have more than 100 lbs to lose. So far, I have lost about 80... I know how it feels to be overwhelmed! You don't have to give things up completely though. You just have to gradually alter your habits. I am a chocoholic and I still eat chocolate... I just don't eat the whole cake anymore. I've tried to completely cut things out, but learned that it only leads to binge-eating later. So now, I eat a fun-size Snickers instead of a king size! Allowing myself a piece here and there works for me... I honestly don't even crave chocolate that much anymore, which I never thought possible! You can do this... and it is even possible without surgery!

I hope I help a little or at least that is my goal :D. First don't ever give up YOU ARE WORTH IT!!! You don't have to cut out anything completely from your life! Trust me I know how it feels to think that way. It was one reason I never started to be serious about weight loss. Because I didn't want people telling well you can have this, that or the other thing. But what I have found and a lot from this website is that is not necessarily WHAT you eat its more HOW MUCH you eat! I love sweets. Brownies, cookies, ice cream and more! But one thing I have learned and now do every time I go to the store is to read labels. When you eat try to only eat one portion size. So its moderation and not depriving yourself of the things that you love.

today i went to an orientation for gastric bypass. i'm more confused and just ready to give up than ever before. i'm only 40 years old and 100 pounds over weight. i can't seem to stop eating and i don't know how. i know for me i won't do well with cutting something completely from my life. please give me advice on how do find a balance and keep motivated. thank you
