does anyone here have any advice on making a mite-free home. both me and the kidz have allergies.

I know i need a vacuum. my miele broke long time ago. so much for geetting a "good" vacuum. any advice on a good one. I also know i might need better sheets and stuff to wash more often. any ideas? i want to quit sweeping the carpet cuz i know the dust in the air is affecting us.

ideas please?
