Ok I feel better. I don't know if it was the pain, the painkillers or the lack of weight loss that sent me into panic mode. Thank you for the replies. First I am not purposely not eating. The pain is like a "MOTHER!" I am thinking of some unsweetened applesauce, greek yogurt and maybe a smoothie. I am keeping up with the exercising still because I have 2 high energy dogs that could careless if I am in pain or not. Again....thank you for the responses.

You are sure dedicated to keep working out at that level! I had a couple of rounds of abcesses in the last year and I got slimfast shakes, not necessarily as a diet food but because they are liquid and have a basic level of nutrition. I suppose ensure could to it too. I also ate yogurt.

Stress hormones will pack on the pounds, or stall weight loss if you are in calorie deficit. As others have mentioned, if your body thinks you're starving it will conserve energy in any way possible, and you burn most of your calories not through exercise but with your metabolism. (Of course, exercise normally helps turn up metabolism) but when you are stressed or don't eat enough, your metabolism finds ways to cut corners and do more with less. If you can bring your energy expenditure closer to your calorie intake, that will ease up some of the stress. Good luck, and I hope you get your tooth fixed soon!

Remember that your body need fuel to heal! Eating well under 1000 calories a day is not going to help your body to fight the infection. I know it's head when you have dental issues, but ask you dentist or doc about what foods you should be eating to maintain a healthy intake while you heal.

Take a deep breathe ! What you're experiencing is perfectly normal. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope. it's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

There are many different reasons your weight could go up that have nothing to do with how many calories you eat. retaining water is the most likely cause of a person gaining weight. I can easily gain or lose as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of a shift in my water weight.

Don't believe water has weight ? I can prove it. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you go pee. Then do your business and get back on the scale. Did you lose weight ? Yes. Did you lose fat ? Nope. Water has weight. The food you eat has weight. So, if you don't have a bowel movement in the morning, all the food you ate from the day before is still in your intestines. Your waste products (poop) have weight. So, don't do a poop in the morning and that could be a 1-2 pound "gain" from the day before.

Remember, there is more to good health than a number that stares at us from between our toes in the morning.

Our weight is not a static number, but more like a vital sign. Just like your blood pressure, heart rate and body temp will vary throughout the day, same is true with your weight. Because our bodies are largely made up of water (the fitter we are the more water we retain), any deviation in our diet, hydration, workouts, even hormones can lead to a shift on the scale.

It could be that the infection is causing certain stress hormones to be released, but one thing is for certain, the scale is not the be-all-end-all of measuring one's progress. And don't forget that infections and calorie restrictions on top of exercise are all stressors on the body, so if you are not eating enough to support normal biological functions (fighting infections is one of them) you may be slowing your recovery process, too. Remember you must eat to lose.

Ok I do not understand this but maybe someone else knows. This past week I have been unable to eat hardly anything while still putting in 100 minutes of exercise. I have a infection due to a cracked tooth and nerve issues. This morning after 5 days of not eating hardly anything because of my tooth, I get on the scale this morning and gained about 8 ounces. What is up with that? Has anyone ever had this problem before? What I am able to eat is well under a 1000 calories and still walking etc.This is extremely depressing! HELP!
